No Audio on Analog files but fine in Digitl (1 Viewer)

I am having a strange problem.

MP 1.2.0 Beta
Hauppage WinTV-HDR 1600
Windows Xp Sp3

When recording using the Digital Tuner all the recorded files play fine.
When recording using the Analog Tuner the video is fine but there is no audio output.
This happens when I try to read the files by any other program other than MP. I have tried several including XBMC

There seems to be something wrong with the encoding of the analog signals. Since I cant seem to find anything about this in the forums or online I am wondering if it is a Beta problem.

I tried to uninstall everything including the tuner cards and clean Xp and tried again with the same results.

Any ideas how to get this to record so that other players can play the analog tuner recordings?

Should also mention that while watching LiveTV in XBMC Digital Tuners operate correctly while Analog Tuners play video but there is no sound.

Hi RobNCD

The 1600 has hardware encoders. All TV Server does is take the digital signal provided by the Hauppauge encoders and turn it into a TS file. The info above looks fine to me. I would say you have audio codec selection issues. Do the analog recordings play with sound in VLC?

Now that I have my other problems worked out I am now back to my first problem. I found another thread located here
Windows MediaPortal TV-Server and XBMC-PVR? [Archive] - XBMC Community Forum maybe someone else could give some insight on this issue. That thread seems to have the same issues I am seeing.
Let me explain better.

When I use MP to record using the digital tuners the resulting files play fine. I have tested using Windows Media Player 12, XBMC with the MP plugin, and VLC media player 1.18. (File plays perfectly).

When I try a file that has been recorded from the Analog Tuner the result is Great video but no sound. Testing the analog tuner recoding with VLC media player results in no problems, good video and good audio. When the analog tuner file is tested in Windows media player and XBMC I get good video but NO sound.

I should note that both files play fine within MediaPortal.

I don't think this is a MediaPortal bug so I'm not sure what you want us to do about it. I mean, if the analog recording plays in any software except XBMC then I fail to see how that points to a problem in MediaPortal/TV Server. After reading your description and the thread that you linked I'm left with the impression that the stream is encoded and recorded correctly... it is just the container structure that is a problem for XBMC.

Two things:
1. Does the analog recording play in MP when you configure MP to use the FFDShow video and audio codecs?
If so then that would *clearly* show that XBMC has the capability to decode the video and audio streams. It just doesn't handle the container structure correctly.
2. Please post TV Server logs showing the graph building for the analog tuner and a screenshot of the analog.grf file in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal TV Server (that's a hidden folder, so you'll need to enable viewing of hidden and system files/folders to see it). Grf files can be opened with GraphStudio. Note that I really do need a screenshot. I won't be able to open the grf file on my system because I don't have your tuner. It is easiest to use ctrl+f12 to graph the screenshot - it autocrops and expands the GraphStudio window size.

Bet this is a similar problem of the type of mpeg audio that we had with BBC radio stations, where ffdshows libavcodec could not play file, but using libmad would.

I have no idea what xbmc uses codec wise, but I would say that the problem needs to be fixed by them.

If that is the case then it should be fairly easy to test right? All I'd have to do is set FFDShow as my MPEG video and audio codec, and then test playback with the two different FFDShow MPEG libraries. I'm more than happy to do that when I get home tonight. Note that I usually use AC3Filter for my MPEG audio...

Testing confirmed that the libmad library can't play the audio for my analog channels in MediaPortal (picture remains frozen). libavcodec on the other hand is fine. This seems like a classic codec issue.

I guess the question is do we need to try to fix this. In RobNCD's case, the audio and video are encoded by his HVR 1600. I'm not sure exactly what TV Server does to wrap it into a transport stream (I'm hoping the screenshot that I requested will tell us that). In my case, the audio and video are encoded by software encoders (ATI AVIVO), muxed, demuxed, remuxed, then finally wrapped into a TS file by our MPFileWriter. If the MP file writer is the problem then someone may be able to do something about it... although I don't know who that someone could be. Not too many people know about the internals of MPFileWriter.
