Had a perfectly working setup, but the onboard AC97 sound was a bit noisy. No free slots, so I installed an external Creative Audigy 2 NX USB sound card. Updated to latest Creative drivers. I use the analog outputs connected to a 5.1 amplifier.

I use the DScaler audio codec and when set to Default DirectSound device (same setting I used with the AC97), I get a horrible whining noise. If I set it to DefaultWave renderer, the sound is clean, but there is no center channel, only left/right and back channels. I have made sure the DScaler filter is set to 3+2 speakers and downmix is disabled. Tried the MPA codec, same results. No problems in other Windows apps, just in MP. Any ideas?

I installed PowerDVD 7.3 Ultra and it works flawlessly. 5.1 sound when playing DVDs in PowerDVD. Changed Audio Codec in MP DVD, Movies and TV to PDVD7. Default Directsound device now sounds clean but still no center. Changing renderer to PDVD7 makes no difference. Checked with Graphedit and the right filters are being used. What could be wrong? Next thing will be to try MP 0.2.3.0 RC1, but I'm reluctant to do that unless I really have to.
