No channels detected (1 Viewer)

I have a Haupppauge WinTV HVR-1250 Hybrid ATSC/QUM installed in my computer. I also installed MediaPortal's TV Server which needs to be configured. When I try to scan for channels it says, "nothing found", hence, no channels displayed.

I think I only installed the MediaPortal Server. Do I need to install all of MediaPortal? I cannot find Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal folder on my computer as suggested in the Wiki, only the installation file seems to be there.

Yes. Open TV Server configuration, click "open log directory" in the top left corner, and then attach the tv.log and error.log that you find there.

From this it looks like you're scanning for analog channels. Are you trying to get analog cable channels? I didn't think they were particularly common anymore (?). If you're trying to get over-the-air free digital channels (ATSC) or free cable channels (clear QAM) then you're performing the wrong kind of scan.

Let us know what you're trying to do and we can try and help you from there.

Yes, I was trying to scan for analog channels. We still have them for awhile yet. However, I think my tuner card just died. It was working earlier today. But now it won't work on Hauppauge's program (no tuner found), so this thread can now be closed. Thank you for your kindness of help. Sorry for any inconvenience. Oh, if I get another card, what would you suggest for my Windows 7 64-bit system? I am in Canada.

Being based in New Zealand as I am, it is hard for me to recommend as I'm not sure what availability is like in Canada and I have no experience with ATSC/QAM/analog tuners (there is no ATSC or cable here, and analog is in the process of being shut down). Hauppauge tends to have reasonable availability, pricing and reliability worldwide, but given your experience with their 1250 I guess I'd be slow to recommend just buying another. One thing I can say - don't get a Yuan PG583. From what I have heard that is a cheap option, but people have reported it doesn't work at all.

Thanks for your advise on what not to buy. The Hauppauge did work well with their program. I think I destroyed it yesterday. I thought that if I ran Hauppauge on their program, WinTV 7, at the same time as scanning for channels in MediaPortal Server it may help MediaPortal Server find the channels but that may have destroyed my tuner. We still have most of the analog channels on cable here until about August this year. After that I will switch to Digital either on cable or indoor antennae.

Ahhh, I see. Yeah - not a good idea... but I would have though Hauppauge's drivers should prevent physical damage to the tuner. To be clear, you can only use tuners in one piece of software at any given time. That is true with most peripheral hardware.

I am not sure if this is the right place to post my question. I am new to media portal and I am having trouble with scanning channels. I installed TV3 Blaster Plugin for IR Server and I can change the channels on my set top box (Comcast) but I can't scan for channels. When I try to watch live TV I get a message No Free Cards Available. I tried to add channels in the TV Channels portion of the TV Server Configuration section and when I try the preview button I get a Preview failed:All Cards Busy message. I am shore that I am doing multiple things wrong. Please help me.
