Wow..

Talk about not being able to handle criticism

Microsoft Media Center Edition does not have a product called TV-SERVER...

They have a standalone solution ..

Mediaportal on the other hand has a product called TV-SERVER that is meant to be running on _A SERVER_ ...

All i did was point out the problem that a product that is touted as a SERVER product will not actually run on a SERVER running SERVER software.

I have now finished the install, done all the usual stuff needed to be able to get it running at all even though mediaportal talks of "one click install" and it just wont work. (like fiddle with sql database to be able to connect).

Just close the thread or delete it if you like, apparantly it is not ok to criticise on this page and so be it.

Maybe i will be back some day to check out if mediaportal has become a serious alternative to vista media center which is not actually as feature rich an experience as mediaportal. Sadly though my media-pc calls for stability and user friendlyness over features because of the WAF factor.

Sad to call a product version 1.0.0.0 when it is obviously still a beta.

I suggest you take a chill pill...

I find that TV server runs fine on win 2k3. It just likes to remind you when you start the tv server config tool that it's not an officially supported platform.

Installation is also a breeze. Just put the wmp11 executable in the expected folder and tv server will install itself nicely.

I have done all that and actually the tv server found channels and everything

Installed the client on a couple of computers and after fiddling with sql server and set it up for a fixed port instead of letting it decide i could also connect fine and get EPG and everything.

BUT....when i try to watch TV ....... Freeze ..... and i can wait a LONG time before it responds again and NO picture..

The server and clients are on the same network, same ip range and subnet, connected directly thru a gigabit lan connection that will move atleast 500 Mbit+ with the current cables.

There are NO firewalls active on either server nor clients and i get no message telling me why i get no picture and it freeze ?

Have you encountered anything like this ?

No, I have not experienced these problems you describe.

Anyway, I am fairly certain they are not OS related.

Since there are a number of possible causes, the best course of action would be to check the following:
1. can you preview the channels on the server? if that works, the tv server part is set up OK.
2. start a manual timeshift from the tv server console and try to connect to that rtsp stream from any of the clients. If that works, it's not a network issue.
3. switch to a channel from the tv client and look in the logs for errors.

If you find out where the problem occurs you'll most likely find the solution already by using the forum search. If you can't, just open a new thread and I'm sure someone will be able to help you out.

Windows2003 is NOT SUPPORTED by Team MediaPortal because Microsoft doesn't provide all DirectX and media related hotfixes to server Operating Systems.

    Fullstop

    Ok i understand.

    But please tell me..

DirectX would not be needed if the server is running in dedicated mode would it ? (DirectX is just for putting the picture on the screen right ?)

Me for example. I dont want to watch television on the server, it would be just a dedicated server running tv-server amongst other things.

Er, does'nt preview in tvserver need that, sorry please use the search function for Windows server 2003\2008, there are posts where users have helped each other to get this to work, but as chemelli has stated, it is NOT supported by team-mediaportal, so coming onto the forum and saying we should support it, when for most people this would be a no go area because of the expertise needed to set it up, and most of us do not have either of the OS's to check if things actually worked.

I would post any requests for help in the above search found threads and hope someone like RickDeckard is kind enough to assist you.
