I've installed MP2 server (and only the server component) on my Windows Server 2012 R2 and a MP2-client on my desktop and laptop. Via a client I can add global media sources using the server's local file system, however I don't see any movie/series/music information being scraped/gathered/however-you-wanna-call-it.
I can browse the sources and stream them just fine, but again I don't see any items appear under movies or series.

There aren't any errors in the log files either. How can I dig further into this problem?

    Hi.
Did you select the correct media type when adding the shares?
Video has sub-items to choose from. If you don't select series or movies there, MP2 can't scrap any online metadata. All items are listed in Videos, but only items that are in a share type "Series" (or "Movies) are shown in Series (Movies) section...

Yes I definitely selected 'movies' for my movies and 'series' for my series. If I understand correctly the actual scraping should start automatically? Is it possible to trigger a rescan? Can I enable some more logging to see what's going on?

How does your folder structure look like? Somehow unusual? Maybe the scrapers don't pick up on it. Could you post an example?

Or better post server.log file so that we can see what actually happened - sometimes it helps to solve problems, I've heard ;)

Here's an interesting part from the server.log:
    [2014-09-24 16:26:28,277] [217389 ] [37 ] [INFO ] - MoviesMetadataExtractor: Exception reading resource '{e88e64a8-0233-4fdf-ba27-0b44c6a39ae9}:///E:/movies/Kick-Ass 2/Kick-Ass 2.mkv' (Text: 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object.')
