you are going to have to actually provide some details as from that one liner I can't figure out what you have done (or are trying to do)

When I install, tvsetup goes straight past password for sql and tv server tries to start then quits. Consequently it isn't possible to set up TV. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
    cheers,
    Mike

    More info....
Is this an upgrade or a fresh install?
If fresh install what options did you choose?

Was mysql installed already or installed via mp...

Basically we need to know exact step by step what you did else we have no way of tracking any issues down

    Hi,
it was installed but as I got no where with it I uninstalled it and reinstalled it with the version mediaportal told me too. With no change in result. In fact I completely uninstalled 3 or 4 times without change. I went with the option to delete everything including registry settings.

So you had a clean install where you were never prompted to enter database details? Since then you have uninstalled and reinstalled?

When you uninstalled did you select the complete remove (including database) option?

Sounds like you best route is to uninstall mp, tv server and mysql. Then reboot and install everything again. If you still have a problem then attach the produced logs
