my compasate card does DVB-T, analogue TV and FM. Mediaportal tells me that it does not support FM.

Sory, looks like my fault. I should have realized "your card does not support radio" actualy means "you need to install a MPEG2 encoder". I thought the MPEG encoder may have been the TVs problem (and it was) but it scanned and found nothing, leaving an error log. It realy would be nice to have meaningful error messages in all these (and many, many other) cases.
So, ther is still a bug here but it is not that it doesn't detect my radio but that it give an incorect error message.
the page listing what MPEG encoders work and where to get them is very hard to find and the links are out of date too
