No sound from Music only? (1 Viewer)

Okay, I've been using MP for a while now. And it's generally been fine.

However recently, it stopped playing sound for music. Movies through MP (mostly AAC/DD5.1) sound fine using the internal MPV/MPA decoders. Movies through an external player (TMT3) also play and sound fine.

But music starts, with no sound. I've tried MP3's and lossless WMA's (all 2-channel). MP looks like it's playing the music, but there's no sound.

If I play the same music through Windows Media Player, it plays fine.

I've configured MP to use BASS, dshow, default sound device, and explicitly picked the nVidia 9300 HDMI sound device. All to no avail.

Any ideas?

Check your codecs with filmerit, bet there's some errors with corrupt or possibly even missing codecs.

I'll try that when I get home in a couple hours. What should I be looking for? Since it works fine with WMP, but not with MP (even when set to default dshow codec and device), what sort of things might be wrong?

I haven't used filmerit before, so if it's obvious, just tell me to use the tool...

Thanks!

He tried BASS. That's not directshow based, so codec problems are ruled out.

    AbMagFab,

Are you using a realtek sound chip?

If so, right-click on the red speaker in your systray & select volume control. See if any of the volume controls are muted. If not, run MP & press alt-enter to switch to windowed mode. With that open, open the realtek volume control panel again. There should be more volume controls in there with MP running. Again make sure none are muted.
