Ok here's my issue. I'm fairly new to the MediaPortal world and have been looking to replace Media Center 2005 for some time and found this high potential replacement (great job on it, by the way). The problem is with trying to watch TV with it. I have tried this on 2 seperate computers, one that is on XP Media Center 2005 (Dell D600 laptop with docking station), the other on XP Pro (Dell 610 laptop with docking station). Both are SP3, latest updates, etc, etc.

Media portal installed just fine on the MCE computer and I chose the option for standalone and TV server. In the TV server setup, the TV tuner is seen (both tuners), it does a channel scan and all looks well. When I try to view TV in the program, it hangs for about 30 seconds then reports back "No Video/Audio Detected". Nothing I did would get it to let me view live TV. I thought maybe it's because the computer just wasn't powerful enough to handle it. So I moved the TV tuner to my other machine - D610 with 2Gb memory. Installed MediaPortal as a standalone again with TV server. It also scans the channels just fine but once again, I get that error "No Video/Audio Detected". At this point I don't think it's due to the power or lack therein of the computer involved however I will also be testing this on my Dell Precision Workstation tonight just to be sure.

I have looked through the forums for this problem and saw someone with a similar problem also using an Adaptec AVC-3610 Dual TV Tuner. The forum post is here and I thought I struck gold on the fix BUT....the post is a year and a half old and refers to another post that talks about an updated SVN build done almost a year ago which are not even available for download anymore (and are probably already integrated in the live build).

I know this card is supported by MediaPortal but I have yet to find a fix so that I can watch TV in MediaPortal. I would post the MediaPortal.log file as I have seen other posts reference this, however I could not find any such file to be able to upload. Does anyone know how to get this TV tuner to work in MediaPortal?

just my 2 cents...

i wouldnt bother with XP anymore (any version).. use Vista or win7 instead... its much less work to use Mediaportal on it..

Vista is garbage and Windows 7 is overkill for what I am trying to do (and probably way too weighty for the hardware in these laptops). XP or MCE 2005 being the best viable solution for what I currently have for hardware.

Anyone else have any useful ideas?

vista was garbage... they got it together from sp1 and on ..
still no superb stuff.. but its perfect for mediaportal .. on the 2gb machine you have..
