This is dumb but, I can't get any movie files to work.
I have .avi , mp4 h264 mostly.
The videos are listed in the menu but when I hit play nothing happens.
My music plays just fine.

I followed these instructions but still doesn't work.
MEDIAPORTAL - free MediaCenter HTPC Software - simple mediaportal codec guide

Any suggestions
I'm going to try and reinstall and see what happens. :(

thanks

I reinstalled, It still won't play any video files on my computer.,
I put a DVD in and it played that just fine.

Does this make sense to anyone.

thanks

What do your MediaPortal log files show is happening, or failing?

If you can't make sense of the log files, post them here (as an attachment) for the experts to view.

Someone else had a problem where they had to uninstall there codecs ie FFDShow, reboot and reinstall, which fixed it for them.

Check with filmerit to see if you have any errors with your codecs anyway.

I guess its hard for me to follow - because I have a mp2.2 with SVN from April 2007 and want to go to Mp2.3 with latest SVN ; deinstalled the old version ; cleaned the registry ; installed the new Version ; SVN and no video plays.I installed on another clean machine and no video plays ; I guess there´s a bug in MP ; right?

Same issue for me. My log file looks like that already posted above. I have uninstalled and reinstalled ffdshow, and also run filmerit which showed a couple of issues but nothing I would say are related. I am running MP 2.3.0 RC3 with no SVN.

This is a major part of the functionality which stopped working some time ago and I just can't figure it out. Probably happened when I upgraded to the RC3.

One note is that I have mpgs off my camera which work, some avi's from my video camera which work, but mpg's converted via mediaportal "Compress" from tv recordings definately no longer work.

Has anyone here had any success with this? Do I load a new SVN and try that?

    Thanks

UPDATE: My problem appears to be solved using something found in another thread. Strangely my one and only Xvid has also started playing ok.

    Edit MediaPortal.xml
Search for useTsFileSourceForMpegs and set that to no

    Hi Stormbringer.

I have just installed mp 0.2.3 RC3 on a fresh comp and sure enough useTsFileSourceForMpegs wasn't in the mediaportal.xml. I then ran MediaPortal config, clicked a few of the options under "Movies", for example set Movies>Movie Player> Mpeg-2 Video Decoder to "MPV Decoder Filter", and checked back in mediaportal.xml. The useTsFileSourceForMpegs now exists in that file. See below:

Default DirectSound Device

MPA Decoder Filter

MPV Decoder Filter

yes

I hope thats of some help as changing this certainly fixed the issue for me.
