Very new, please help.

I just installed MP. I have downloaded DVDecryptor and used it to rip my first DVD(The Matrix). It plays. I'm thrilled. (eventually I'll want to learn how to remove the menu and have it play just the movie - I was able on this disk to avoid the previews)

I have several questions:
My main goal is to use MP to store and play our vast DVD collection (200+). Over time I'd like to rip them all to the hard drive.

1. I've installed MP1R2 - just the basics
2. I've installed DVD decryptor, and used it once successfully (although I didn't see an .ISO file, just .IFO and .VOB)
2a. I have NOT installed Deamon Tools - do I have to?
3. I've seen MyDVD, AMC mentioned, but can't figure out the relationship... does basic MP use an AMC? If I download MyDVD plugin, is something other than basic MP required? (MyDVD is the plugin that will help organize my movies and let me search, right?)
4. MediaSlayer seems to be an up to date DVD ripper which can be accessed directly from MP, is it the currently recommended ripper? any advice?

thanks in advance.

The .iso is not needed, all it does is to collect all the files you now have inside one file. Personally I have all my DVDs ripped the same way that you have, simply open the video_ts.ifo to play the file, that way you don't have to wait for Daemon to mount the iso and start it up. Personally I can't see any reason why to use iso-files for DVDs.

AMC is only needed if you want to use the MyFilms plugin. If you want to use the built in video database then just point it to the folder where you store your movies.

I've been using MyFilms for quite some time, and really like it, it takes some time to build the database, but it's easier to maintain it then the built in one. And you can use it on multiple computers aswell.

But atm I'm also looking into the MovingPictures plugin.
