Hello All,

I've been looking around for a PVR solution for an old windows box that i would like to dedicate as a PVR. It seems that media portal is ranked the best around and I would like to give it a shot. I would like to use it to play movies stored on my hard drive onto my HDTV, as well as record television shows. My one real question is...is there a tv listings guide that can be accessed via internet to record shows? Also, will my TV tuner card be sufficient for the needs that I have. My information as follows:

Intel pentium 4 processor
asus mobo
EVGA agp video card with svideo out
Win TV-PVR 150
Direct TV is my television provider.

Thanks in advance!

Andrew

Cant help you with the TV Listings but youre Hardware should be sufficiant.

You just should use at least 1GB Ram, an DX9 capable Graphics Adapter with at leats 128MB Vram and a fast HDD.
For my part i use a stripped down Version of Win XP SP3, you can create it easily by yourself with the nlite ini from this Thread here (in German but Google Translator helps in case) https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...pecktes-xp-als-grundlage-fuer-den-htpc-67750/

Thank you..Ill be sure to look into this and try it. I'm not sure if my graphics card is DX9 capable. Will it not function unless its DX9?

If you're talking about just xvid rips and SD content then what you have there will be fine. I had P4 (2.6) with same gfx card and 1gb ram, dual tuners, and it worked a treat with RC4.

Its sufficient for SD content but you will have difficulty playing HDTV. Its probably unsuitable for 1080p also, as it has fairly high hardware requirements.

For HD Material you would need a dualcore with a good integrated GPU like that one in the current AMD780 MoBo's.
But the main problem there is not the hardware but the driver.

ahhh...so, i would need to upgrade my box completely in order to run HD. What about 720, do you think it would handle that resolution?
