I read the wiki. I read the features. I spent some time in the forums. Nothing provided the specific answers. Please help me.

Before I download mediaportal, I want to know if it will do what I want it to do.

I have been using Windows Media Center successfully for months. I would like to do something different. I have a very fast desktop connected directly to the cable and to wifi.

Can I easily use mediaportal do the following:
1) watch TV on the computer without having to buy more things
2) record TV on the computer
3) convert the recordings into a format that plays on my iPad without spending money on programs


That's all I want to do. Can I do it with media portal? If so, I will happily donate money. If not, please let me know now so I can move on.

P.S. it might be worth posting some of this basic info on the home page for future noob-tards like me.

With free third party software like HandBrake, yes. You may want to think about iPiMP as well...
