I'm having a similar issue - I am outputting all audio over HDMI from HTPC into AV Receiver, and while I can set AV Receiver to multichannel output, this is not giving me proper 5.1 surround sound on movies ripped from DVD (all in .vob format with original DVD structure). I initially thought your solution would work for me, but thinking about it, I am not using the Realtek audio device, just the onboard HDMI, which is Intel. Unless anyone can confirm that I should be getting the full 5.1 experience over HDMI, I think my solution is to only send video over the HDMI cable, and get an optical cable from the HTPC to the AC Receiver, and send 5.1 audio via the Realtek application. Edit: I was being a bit of a muppet - having re-read my post, I went into MP config, and changed the default audio device for video playback and audio playback to the HDMI Device, and everything worked.. Thanks for triggering the brain activity with your posts though guys - got me working! :thx:
