Notification: Extending "My Mail" plugin (1 Viewer)

hey! it's on its way (last post has been updated yesterday, mind you) but it's a tad longer than expected.
the problem is that my spare time is quite limited on week ends.

reading: ok
delete: ok
sending and answering: not in a foreseeable future - who really wants to write a mail with the keyboard emulator? It's a real pain in the ar*e if you use MP with a remote control.
I'm struggling ATM with the GUI to get acceptable responses with hundreds of mails.

When I'm finished with POP3 would you prefer the next big thing to be IMAP or SMTP?

Do you propose a helping hand?

i have the ms keyboard, therefore i can write email from my couch over my mp. but i have to quit mp to change to office!

i prefer smtp!

i'm just a user! i have no idea about programming!

Hi,

very nice is also a feature to mark email for delete from server. I use this feature very often on my D-Box2 Email client to preselect unneeded emails.

it's already implemented in my private builds, no prob.

Any other requests for the POP3 module?
I do not plan to handle PGP/S/MIME, spam classifiers, anti-phishing tools, external account conversions/imports. I still don't know about personalized message filtering. Every other request is welcome. Features that require interaction with user must be within the boundaries of what could already be achieved using the Mediaportal user interface - and its limits.
Some optional features such as message searching will not be functional when the first alpha is ready (but later on).

You asked for feature requests.... hmmm.....

1. First of all I would like to see a configurable kind of notification in case of new mail arrives:
1.1. play a sound (yes, no, soundfile to play)
1.2. popup with little information about the mail (yes/no, perhaps sender and subject / or simply the amount of new mail(s))
1.3. a simple small (and perhaps animated) icon as an overlay to the current screen (yes/no config)?

just to imagine more nice features it could be helpful to get a pre-alpha or whatever to install and have a first look at it?!

At least I want to say thanx for the work you invest here and keep it up. I think it's a graet improvement to mp to have a mail interface.

1.1 & 1.2 should be okay (see bigj's idea about this feature)
1.3 I don't quite understand what you want

the problem is that the motor (the messaging client core) is here but no wheel to steer the car yet (no MediaPortal user interface).

1.3. I thought instead of a sound or a popup it would be nice to just an animated image (a small spinning lettersymbol or something like this) as an overlay on whatever screen is currently active... so You would not be disturbed but informed about a new arrived mail...

well, now interface right now? So we've have to wait just like my kids shortly befor christmas

sorry but 1.3 seems far beyond current possibilities of MediaPortal user interface.

A word of notice: I called for feature ideas in order to check if the messaging plugin structure is flexible enough. It doesn' t mean that every feature asked above will be implemented in the first version of this plugin.

I know that

I would like to see all the formerly requested nice features by me and the other guys.... but I also know what the word time means.

I've read one comment about the possibility to write a new mail and send it from within mp. This would also be a great feature. I think we all hate it to close mp to do a simple task like writing a short memo.

the possibility to delete mails (from the server as well) by simply 'point and click' would also be nice.
If the mails are left on the server by the plugin it's up to me to frequently request my mailaccount with my fully featured mailclient to ensure a lean server account. I think this would be enough for the firt approach.

Once again thanx ahead for the time and work You spent for contributing to this project and for giving us all a nice new little toy to play with (whenever it arrives).
