MediaPortal Version: 1.0 RC4
Windows Version: XP Home SP3
CPU Type: AMD 64X2 3800
Memory: 4G
1. TV Card: Nova-T500 99xx
1. TV Card Driver: 4.3

Hi,

I am very new to MediaPortal and love the look of it. I am having an issue with getting my tv card working. I have a Nova-T500 running under windows XP and have loaded the latest drivers, I tested the card using the software that came with the card (WinTV) and it all works fine, picks up channels and I can watch TV.

I then tried to perform the scanning for TV channels in the MediaPortal server setup, it takes ages and comes back with no channels found, I have tried several regions.

After looking there is information about the Low Noise Amplifier being switched off by default but not how to switch it on.

Can anyone help with this please.

Many thanks
Rich

Nova-T-500 no channels after scan (Update)

After searching for a while I found some information regarding this for the WinPVR500, not sure if this relates to the Nova-T500?:confused:

Go to
ftp://www.hauppauge.com/Support/PVR500

Download
lna_tray_app_install.zip

Install 2.4205 of the Amity2 drivers by running hcwdriverinstall.exe
Copy hcwTVS.ax to C:\Windows\system32 and register the file.

(Click "Start" then "Run" and on the run line type: Regsvr32.exe hcwTVS.ax and click ok)
Copy hcwTVSApplet to where you want to keep it i.e. your desktop or my documents.

Run the hcwTVSApplet and it will be on you're system tray. Right click it and go to Device property pages select the top for tuner 1 or bottom for tuner 2 and just check LNA mode on for both tuners.

After that try your TV viewing application. If you still have problems call hauppauge.

I have tried this but it has not worked for me yet. Will have another go at the weekend.

    Hi,

I'm not sure if this will help, but the PVR500 and the Nova-t 500 are not the same. The PVR500 is a dual analogue card. The Nova-t 500 is a dual DVB card.

Also, if you are using Windows XP, don't install SP3 - at least until recently it was not compatible with the Nova-t 500. I don't know if this has changed recently.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

    Hi,

Now I read more carefully, I can see that you are aware that the two cards are different, but that you are using XP SP3.

When I "upgraded" to SP3, I got crashes after varying amounts of time, so not the same as your problem. For me, apart from this issue, the Nova-t 500 has been perfect with MP. I use the TV Engine 3 though, not the built-in TV engine.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

    Hi Mark,

Thank you for your response, I was thinking of just scrapping it and giving up, getting another card.

I don't get crashes with the Nova-T on SP3, I have put the latest drivers available from Hauppauge 4.3.25080.

What is the TV Engine 3?

    Regards
    Richard

    Hi,

When you install, it asks you if you will be viewing HD TV. Chances are you said no, in which case you got the built-in TV engine.

Even if you aren't using HDTV, you can still use the newer TV engine, in which case you do not need to have MediaPortal running in order to record, or even to have MediaPortal and the TV cards in the same computer.

Have a look through the documentation. The installer is pretty friendly now, so you should be okay.

    Hope this helps.

    TV-Server/overview - MediaPortal Manual Documentation

The main thing is, you can record multiple channels on the same transponder, ie BBC1\2\3 and still have a free card to do something else with, maximum amount of recordings i have had at any one time was 8 channels :)
If you are on SP3 you must have the https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...ner-issue-channel-scan-crash-windows-xp-6344/
The other bit you mentioned relates to usb causing problems, which the T500 is really 2 usb dvb tuners on a pci board, controlled by a via usb chip.
