Odd this has just started happening, but every so often a video file will just freeze the picture for a few seconds and then start again. The sound is not affected.

In the attached MP log you can see something happening at 18:52 and 18:55... these are exactly when the picture froze.

Any ideas anyone?:D

    Take it this is off a usb drive, does the same thing happen if its on internal HDD, just trying to see if its down to activity over the usb bus that may be interfering with playback.

    Thanks for the reply. Yes it is one of 6 USB drives. but i dont think hub bandwidth is the problem for two reasons:
    • This has only just started happening
    • It does not happen in 7MC or VLC.

    What is this entry on the log at the exact time of the freeze, repainting?:
    2010-05-05 18:44:25.770458 [Debug][MPMain(1)]: VMR9Helper: Playing -> Repainting, Frames 0

    Hi Trekkiedj

    did you figure out what the problem was? I get exactly the same vmr9 repainting log entries, and also occurs every hour or so with live TV. Not sure when it started exactly, RC3 or 4 maybe?
    Code:
    2010-07-15 18:39:27.940813 [Debug][MPMain(1)]: VMR9Helper: Playing -> Repainting, Frames 0
    2010-07-15 18:39:40.751546 [Info.][(15)]: planescene:PresentImage() frame:0 enabled:True allowed:False
    2010-07-15 18:39:40.760546 [Debug][MPMain(1)]: VMR9: Repainting -> Playing, Frames: 1
    2010-07-15 18:39:47.773947 [Debug][MPMain(1)]: VMR9Helper: Playing -> Repainting, Frames 0
    2010-07-15 18:39:48.738003 [Info.][(15)]: planescene:PresentImage() frame:0 enabled:True allowed:False
    2010-07-15 18:39:48.745003 [Info.][(15)]: planescene:PresentImage() frame:1 enabled:True allowed:False
    2010-07-15 18:39:48.749003 [Info.][(15)]: planescene:PresentImage() frame:2 enabled:True allowed:False
    2010-07-15 18:39:48.754003 [Info.][(15)]: planescene:PresentImage() frame:3 enabled:True allowed:False
    2010-07-15 18:39:48.758004 [Info.][(15)]: planescene:PresentImage() frame:4 enabled:True allowed:False
    2010-07-15 18:39:48.762004 [Debug][MPMain(1)]: VMR9: Repainting -> Playing, Frames: 5

    Tried a couple of different codecs to no avail...

    (MP1.1.0rc6, ATI5770 w/cat10.5, Win7x32)

    cheers
    kirky

    EDIT: just noticed an interesting correlation in the evr.log file when this happens. About 15 mins before the freeze, frames start getting dropped (10-40ms), then when the freeze occurs these dropped frames jump up to 6000+ms, then drop back down again and disappear after a couple of minutes. This timeline is the same with other freezes I've had this evening. Relevant portion of evr.log attached.

    AW: Odd periodic freeze in video playback

    i seem to have the same or a similar issue: videoplayback freezes, audio goes on and then video playback speeds until it catches up with the audio. this only started to happen after in upgraded to windows 7.

    did you guys find a solution?

    I think that I have a similar yet slightly different issue because it only happens after I pause a video and then resume it. What happens is that the video freezes while the audio plays, then once the audio catches up to that point in the video, it syncs up again. It happens almost every time I pause a video and then resume it, sometimes lasting longer than other times depending on how long it's been paused I suppose. I hope I am not jacking your thread though!

    I will provide logs as soon as I am able to so that hopefully someone can determine why this might be happening.
