I can not figure out how to get the media portal to "see" my movies. I have saved a couple of movies to my hard drive but can not figure out how to play them... So I guess my questions are 1) What format shoul i save my DVD's in on the hardrive and 2) how do I get Mediaportal to see them and play them? Sorry for being slow - but I am confused.
:)
Thanks
Y

MP will handle pretty much any format your movies are in. What format ARE they in?

Make sure that the extensions are listed in Movies->Extensions in configuration. Those are the only file types MP "sees". If they are ISOs then make sure Daemon Tools is also configured (under general->Daemon tools in config - make sure you are in the Advanced view).

Make sure the folders your movies are in is also in configuration (Movies->Movie Folders).

If there are DVD rips in folders (video_ts folders with .ifo and .vob files) then I think you need the "movies are in folders option", but I am not sure. I use ISOs, myself.

Also, I recommend you use the movie database so you can see all your movies from one spot, even if they are in different folders/drives.

Thank you Millhouse - but I can not even figure out how to make sure that the extensions are listed in Movies->Extensions in configuration... How do I do that? Is there a simple "getting started" tutorial? I have my movies saved as ISO's but can not figure out how to get them to show up on MP... I guess I may need a lot of "hand-holdin" to get started - I appreciate your patience and advice.

Do I need to buy Daemon tools? If so which package do I need?

you could also extract the .iso's with isobuster and play the extracted .ifo file with mediaportal

I believe you need to go into the advanced setup of media Portal and configure the section called Daemon Tools. That'll tell MP where Daemon Tools is located and how to interact with it. I hope this helps get you going!

First you need to make sure MP knows where Daemon tools is located, you can tell it in this section

If you dont see that setting then click up in the top right corner ( Switch to Advanced Mode)

then you need to make sure MP sees .iso as a valid movie file, do that here by adding .iso
