Only loading half the folder.jpg files (1 Viewer)

Hi,

I have recently reinstalled MediaPortal because I wanted a clean install for the newest version. I previously used the default movie sorter that came with MediaPortal, it would scan my movie folder (only have one) and find my directory's, find the folder.jpg inside them and display this as the cover. Before this I used the default imdb grabber but since updating from RC2 it causes nothing but trouble.
The problem with MediaPortal's default sorter scanning my harddrive was that it was just terriblely (sp?) slow, would have to wait half a minute before I could select a movie and even then navigation was hella slow.

So now I use Moving Pictures again, tried it before but it gave me some trouble, but the latest release seems to be doing fine and looks fine, except for one thing. In the advanced config I set the maximum covers to download to 0 and set the minimum width for backdrops to 9999 pixels. This causes the plugin not to download backdrops or covers, which is how I like it because in every movie folder I have a hand picked folder.jpg which I like to be displayed. The only problem is that more than half of the covers aren't loaded or displayed.
They are all named folder.jpg, are all residing in the movie folder and are all displayed in the default sorter from MediaPortal.

And another small thing, I don't like the default backdrop if none is fould (the picture of the theatre), is there a way to just display no backdrop at all? I don't like the backdrop feature since about 20% of my movies don't return a proper backdrop and it looks ugly when you are browsing the backdrop changes to the theatre.

Thanks for reading!

I have found the cause of my first problem, it seems only my HD movies have a cover and not my dvd rips. And my HD movies are located directly in the movie folder, but the dvd rip files are in the video_ts folder. So maybe that is the problem. Only, how to fix it? Maybe I did something wrong in the config screen?

Moving Pictures will only look in the root folder for your cover. The wording in the GUI maybe is a little misleading, but if you have a DVD on your hard drive, it will not look in the video_ts folder, it will look in the folder above that. For example:

D:\Movies\Backdraft\video_ts\VTS_01_0.IFO
D:\Movies\Backdraft\folder.jpg

That would be the naming convention that it needs to automatically pick up the cover. We may in the future add a recursive search here, especially if this comes up again, but it would not be for a while. We are trying to get 0.7 out the door as soon as possible, so this would probably get pushed back at least until 0.8.

As for the default backdrop, yes you can change it. You will have to modify the movingpictures.xml file though as it is a skin setting and not something directly controlled by the plug-in. You need to look for an <image> control that has the file background.jpg specified for the file. Just delete it altogether from the skin file. Does this make sense?

I'm sorry, my explanation wasn't that good, but that's exactly how I have it.

Case 1:
Y:\Films\Alles is Liefde (2007)
Y:\Films\Alles is Liefde (2007)\VIDEO_TS\VIDEO_TS.IFO
Y:\Films\Alles is Liefde (2007)folder.jpg

Case 2:
Y:\Films\Appaloosa (2008)\Appaloosa (2008).WMV
Y:\Films\Appaloosa (2008)\folder.jpg

In case 1 I don't see the folder.jpg, in case 2 I do.

Yes actually it does :D Just learned about .xml files at school for a project so this I can do. :D

Shoot I am sorry. Okay, here is the deal. In 0.7 it will behave exactly as I have described. But with 0.6 it will look in the video_ts folder. So this is a recent change and with the next release your configuration will work just fine. But right now it is looking in the video_ts folder. :( I am not sure there is a quick fix unfortunately...

Ah so it's not something I can change, well then the only sollution I see is to place all my dvd movies in a seperate folder, search them all and place the folder.jpg in the video_ts folder, see if that works. Looking on the bright side, only 120 or so movies.
thnx for the answer, will let you know if it works!

Copy'd all my folder.jpg's so that it now looks like this.

Y:\Films\Alles is Liefde (2007)
Y:\Films\Alles is Liefde (2007)\VIDEO_TS\VIDEO_TS.IFO
Y:\Films\Alles is Liefde (2007)\VIDEO_TS\folder.jpg
Y:\Films\Alles is Liefde (2007)\folder.jpg

OK I've read this thread and can't seem to get this working for me. Like Tsurany I have a handpicked folder.jpg in each folder. My directory is set up as

F:\Movies\The Kite Runner\cm-tkr.mkv (I have left the file names the way the scene group named them ... is that the problem?)
F:\Movies\The Kite Runner\folder.jpg

I have set Max covers to download to zero but when I scan, close up configuration and launch MediaPortal's Moving Pictures plug in ... all my cover art is blank but the backdrops are displayed correctly.

I have almost 500 movies setup this way, and that is why I tried this plugin, hoping I wouldn't have to change each picture manually in movie database settings or rename 500 files. Without Moving pictures plugin running in mediaportal, all the correct folder.jpg covers show up in "Shares" view but not in "Titles"

Thanks for your help !

There is an option in Advanced Configuration to turn on the scanning of the movie folder for folder.jpg covers. Have you turned this option on?
