    For the WAF...

Selecting channel up or channel down in Live TV should follow the order of TV listings in TV Guide fom top (up) to bottom (down). Currently the channel selection follows the sort order in the guide, but is inverted (i.e., channel up moves down the TV Guide list order).

Channel change should follow the logic: 'Channel Down' moves down the TV Guide list order; 'Channel Up' moves up the TV Guide list order.

This would keep the wife from throwing the remote across the room. ;)

    Thanks

    Chuck

Sorry if I seem to repeat myself... but I tend to do that. It's those 'other voices' in my head ;)

    Example...

    My Guide listing shows:

    4.1
    6.1
    6.2
    12.1
    18.1
    58.1
    58.2
    58.3
    10.1
    36.1
    36.3
    36.4
    4.3
    36.5
    36.6
    4.2
    36.7
    36.8

If I am on channel 6.1 in live TV and hit the 'Channel UP' button, then the channel switches to 6.2 ... not 4.1, as expected. I have my channels sorted according to content, not just by channel number.

    Commercial TV channels
    PBS program channels
    Music Channels
    Info channels (weather, traffic)

    Regards

    Chuck

On most TV sets and SetTop boxes, Channel Up means next channel adn Channel Down means previous channel. I think it would be confusing for most users to change that. Plus you can always remap your remote to do this change by yourself.

But I believe the majority of users are accustomed to the current default mapping so I think it should remain as it is.

channel up /down on MCE remote does this for me...

Have you tried unticking the "select channel by index (non-us)" option in config???

edit: Just read that you want it to work the other way... every other STB I have ever used has channel up going down the EPG and channel down going up it.... that just makes more sense

Can't you can always just swap the buttons around in MP config to achieve this??

The problem is the visual cues given by the Guide and Mini-Guide. My wife sees the order of the channels in the guide, and the associated up/down buttons to move up/down the list, as well as using the channel up/down button to page up/down the list and relates that to changing the channels in live TV.

You are right, the OLD paradigm of changing channels is the linear next larger number on the dial or previous smaller number using a FIXED order. But I think it is time to rethink that paradigm; being able to sort the channels to whatever order breaks that old linear thought. I'm just proposing an option, maybe just a check-box, that allows the user the choice to follow the channel order as defined in the Guide when zapping in live TV (up = up the list, down = down the list list). Isn't MediaPortal all about choices?

Also, wouldn't reassigning the channel button function in the remote reverse the action of paging in the mini-guide?

    this is my final argument,

    best regards,

    Chuck

Channel up/down does follow the TV Guide order just visually reversed so as to be consistent with the existing devices most users are accustomed. Changing it is already possible by remapping so I don't see the need for an extra configuration option.

Also, wouldn't reassigning the channel button function in the remote reverse the action of paging in the mini-guide?
Not really. You can selectively remap keys on specific screens and/or under conditions. So you could say that I want CH-UP key to trigger the Channel Down action in Fullscreen TV and TV Guide but trigger the Page-up action everywhere else.
Try it, you will see that it is more powerful than just a pre-configured behavior enabled by some checkbox in setup.;)
