Hello everybody,

i'm rather new to media portal, so i have many questions about it. I hope you experienced user can help me out.

One imporant thing i like to use in an media center is:
The organisation of the media center database for the media files should not be based on the actual folder location on
the drive, but rather on the meta information in the files.

So if i have a folder on the harddrive called "Nightwish" with the subfolders Album1, Album2, ...
I want to see in Media Portal only the Albums and not the parent folder.

But in the moment Media Portal mirrors the file and folder structur on my harddrive. And this is pretty much suboptimal.
Is this a bug or a feature? Or a misconfiguration on my side?

Hope you can give me a clue.

Greets

Media portal has a number of views you can use to display your content, by default (I think) it uses the 'Shares' view which basically just show's the contents of your configured folders as they are structured on the drive.

There's normally an option on the left hand side of the GUI called 'Switch View', click this and you'll be able to switch to a number of views such as 'Album', 'Genre' etc. which is what you're after.
I believe you will also need to make sure all your music has been added to the database, you can do this by loading the Media Portal Configuration app, going to 'Music->Music Database' and clicking 'Update database from selected shares'.

Also in the Media Portal Configuration app, you can modify the existing views or create your own, for music this is under 'Music->Music Views'.

You can view either by folder or by artists/album/genre etc if you have correctly tagged files. Have you added files to the database as well as adding the folders?

Under the configuration you need to goto: Music > Music Database and select update database from selected shares. This will scan all the folder's you've have added under music folders and add the metadata into the database.

    Wiki should help: http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/MediaPortalSetup_Music

Once this is done, when you're in Mediaportal > My Music change the view from Shares to Artist / Album etc.

Edit: Whoops, beaten too it :)
