They are reckognized as real harddrives and have SATA connection. They are perfect for HTPC but still expensive (10-20 €/GB!!!) If you have the money you can give a try...You can use a flash drive for Timeshift to reduce HD-usage though (but it will die fast because of the frequent read-write cycles). I think you cannot install XP or Vista onto a "normal" flash drive.So finally it is still better to buy a good old harddrive (maybe throttle a little bit to get it quiet - but slower)</blockquote>
