well the last case we built was the black Serener -
with a bit smaller passiv cooling system (also a heat-pipe but just ONE - that was enought)

the ION chipset an the ASUS came along with 26 Watt/Idle and about 34 Watts fullHD (compl.syst.)working process ...
so the BorgFX would be kind of hmmm overkill ...

the serener-case has possibilities on both sides of the enclosur @ the cooling-elements for heatpipes ...
but take a look that the HP1 (Heat-pipe-one) is send with the case -
you can use that for perfect fitting the heatpipes to the cooling elements ...

all in all a good combination ... which will work fantastic ...

Great to read about your good results.

The Serener cases looks amazing and i will go for the silver for my next HTPC.

What's the distance between DVD slot and power leds on your case? Is there some room for a VFD display?

sure ... there is enought space -
we had same idea - but at the moment not the time (and it is not need for our applications) to implement it :)) for the moment)...
but it would fit (if you are not affraid of metalll-work) .... :)

the black one will not be produced anymore (thats what my HW-Dealer said :(
and i do not know if that is also for the silver version)

i have hmm my "special" HTPC-Case (Semi-Passiv) and THERE i have VFD ...

and - today i drilled and colored the last part of the DIY-case (the up-cover) ... long way .. but i still like .. it is
nearly same wide as the serener ... but twice as high ...

also some pictures of it ...
    it'll bee used in my sleeping-room ... :)

    now as a pure client - JNC62K AM2 BE-2350 (formly single-seat)
and the LG Blue-Ray/HD-DVD combo drive (full 5.25")
(first build in acryl ... https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/ongoing-htpc-projects-60/prototyp-mepo-47568/ KLICK)

    hey guys,

havent't had time to take some pics of my project, but soon...

My biggest problem is, that I can't get it passive without a special case. Nevertheless, I'm gonna to post pics soon :)

    @svenhatt,

i love this housing and if it wasn't that expensive it would have been my next case. I'm keen to see how you manage to fit in the vfd. imho a vfd is a "nice to have", cause I got one in my diy-case but facing the value and the times how often you really need it or use it...there is a disbalance.

Keep in mind that even with the borg heatpipe set you need slight modifications or other metalwork to do.

    @ onkelchris,

yeah, not easy to find a proper passive case. the best , if you dont want to build diy thing, are the mcubed housings.

I have a small list of passive housuings, either for buying or at least for some inspiration ;-)
But all have one thing in common.... they are not cheap. ;)

    a list from mini-itx.de
    coolermaster tc 100
Hush Technologies - Leiser PC nice for inspiration
A-Tech Fabrication Home Page nice for inspiration

    @polarie

nice to see that you got a cover for the "aurum hd" case in teh end ;)

ok guys, here are the pics...

as you can see, there is a 40mm cooler between the RAM and the heatsink. for now, GPU has ~65°C, CPU has ~57°C and HDD has ~40°C. not the best, but also not dangerous ;)

for sure, a passive case would be the best for a HTPC, but my case was half the price of the cheapest passive case I found.

easy way with big cooling-elements ...

    @ OnkelChris
how is the zotac Board ...?
works also good with the SAF?

hmm today i do no metall work anymor - but i have to configure the Logitec Dinovo Mini as Remote ...
;-) after that job (the upcomming week)
i will try to built the next full passiv AM2+ Athlon II X2 235e and full HD ...

i'm also trying to modify my normal case to a passive one. but this needs a lot of free time, which i don't have at the moment. also i'm trying to build it as cheap as possible.

    polarie:

these questions are.... not worth to talk about ;)
i wouldn't say, all ion boards are good enough for a htpc, but the zotac definitely is. don't know how saf is working on this zotac, i'm using my own codec mix.
one thing to say: the ion is my server and also the main client. it has a full vista installation running with 1GB of RAM temporarily. (of course, i did some modification to the os and some other things ;) )

New design layout for the VFD.
I just cut over the holes for power button and leds with my cnc mill in my workshop, and cut a new one for the power button. Don't think i want any leds.
