PC crashes when playing mp3's (1 Viewer)

Windows Version: Windows XP
CPU Type: Intel celeron 2.53 ghz
HDD: 160 gb ide , 160 gb Sata
Memory: 1024 mb
Video Card: Asus a9250
Sound Card: Realtek ac'97 onboard
MPEG2 Video Codec:
MPEG2 Audio Codec:
Remote: MCE remote control

When im playing mp3's in mediaportal my pc completely crashes.
Ive already reinstalled Mediaportal,
Switched to bass engine. But it still occurs the problem.

Does anyone know why this happens?

You say completely crashes??, i take it the 3 finger shuffle (ctrl+alt+del) does not work then??
looking at above there is no mpeg2 audio decoder listed,, mp3's are really mpg2,,layer 3 (audio) perhaps this might point the way?
uninstalled anything lately,, perhaps an initial crash may have left the mpg decoder files corrupted

does it occur with every mp3 or only wit special ones?
