Summary:

The current sort order for pictures using "Name" sort in MyPictures is not in numeric order. I'd like it to follow Windows XP sorting which sorts by numeric order if there are numbers in the filenames.

Description:

I like to put my photos in sequence and I use numeric file naming to do so. e.g.

Picture0
Picture1
Picture2
...
Picture10
Picture11
...

Unfortunately, MP slideshow displays the files in what appears to be alphabetic order. e.g.

Picture0
Picture1
Picture10
Picture11
....
Picture20
Picture2
Picture21
....

I believe the issue is similar to what exists between file sorting in Windows 2000 and Windows XP/2003 described in this KnowledgeBase article : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/319827

Anyone else interested in such functionality ?

Am I really the only one that wants this functionality ?

I've spent ages putting all my photos in a particular order and it's really frustrating when MP displays them out of order. Is there any chance someone can fix this for the next version ? Please......

Hi ddj147,
this is not a problem of MP but of the way, you are naming your files.
You need to add leading "0"s, so that filenames have the same length.
E.g.
Picture001
....
Picture010
...
Picture101
This will give you are correct sorting.

It's really a way that Google Picassa renames files I guess. I'm using it to order my photos, then use it's rename function which adds fixed text and then a number. Unfortunately it doesn't add leading zeros or digits so it means that I need to go through manually and do so. I guess I was just hoping that MP would cater for this.

Instead of Picasa (a feature request for your problem is already in the database), you can use various other tools like e.g. IrfanView.
They are supporting a lot of batch renaming features.
