Area: Media Portal Program
MP Version: RC4
Skin: razor (tried others too)
Windows Version: XP Home SP2
CPU Type: AMD Athlon 64 3000+
Memory: 512 MB PC3200
Motherboard Chipset: ASUS K7V
Video Card: ASUS 9550 (ATI chipset)
Video Card Driver: no idea
Video Card Resolution: 1024.x768
Video Render Type: no idea
Video Codec Type & Version: Mpeg2Dec filter (??)
Audio Codec Type & Version: MPER/AC3/DTC/LPCM Audio decorder (??)
TV Card: Hauppauge PVR150 (two of those)
TV Card Type: well, the cards are hardware, the drivers software...
TV Card Driver: no idea (downloaded from hauppauge two weeks ago)

Synopsis:
I got two problems with the playback of (recorded) tv:

- Sometimes recorded tv plays back ok for say 30 seconds, after that both video and audio hang for a few seconds and then playback continues, sometimes the 'hanging seconds' are skipped, sometimes they played. Playback continues for a while again (say a minute) and the whole thing starts again. This sometimes continues for entire recordings of over an hour, sometimes it just a part of the recording (10 to 15 minutes).

- The right part of the tv 'falls' of. Sometimes I can view everything and sometimes a piece of the video falls of. I think one of my tv cards is operating ok and the other one isn't. I've tried all aspect ratio's, when things are wrong the 'original' aspect ratio is also square and not 4:3. I also tried a few PAL settings for the card in Mediaportal setup (I'm located in the Netherlands so PAL should be ok).

While I'm typing this, I also got a question. Is there a way to have mediaportal run in the background, so scheduled recordings are recorded when I'm doing something else with my computer (I used to use MCE, and I was quite happy with the fact that my scheduled recordings were being recorded even if I wasn't logged on).

Exit full screen (alt + enter) and then minimise, records fine.
The only downside is Mouse\keyboard used.

I somehow got rid of the 'right part of the screen' falling off. But still, if playing back recordings there are lots and lots of freezes. Does anyone have any idea as to what I can do about this?

BTW. I switched my video and audio codec to the Intervideo coded (windvd).

I gather from your earlier description, that this "pausing" of the video and audio ONLY occurs with recorded programs and NEVER on live TV - correct?

Have you played the same recorded file through Windows Media Player 10 - does it exhibit the same behaviour?

If it does, then it suggests that something is causing the recorded file to be corrupted? Are you using SATA disks - I have read of some users having issues like this with some SATA controllers.....

What else have you tried in order to solve this problem?

I haven't tried media player yet. But your right, the problem only occurs with recorded tv, not with live tv.

What I've tried to solve the problem is:

    - Playing around with options in the setup
    - Different video codec
    - Store recorded video to my old PATA disk instead of the SATA disk

    None of these has helped.

Recently I've also encountered a second type of freeze, the video freezes but the audio continues. I have to forward or rewind a bit to get the recording out of the freeze (if I rewind, the recording doesn't always freeze again at the same point). (In the other kind of freeze, both audio and video freeze and MP will get out of the freeze on its own, this one is much more common).

OK, so it sounds like you need to determine if the "pausing" occurs during the recording process (and is therefore a permanent part of the recorded file) or if the "pausing" only occurs during the playback of recorded files. That would help us to narrow down the cause of this problem...
