Hi,
I would like to ask, if there is a possibility to play 3d Movies like "Monsters vs. Aliens 3d" in Mediaportal. I've got (very soon) a Samsung 3D-TV and two pairs of Samsung's Shutter glasses.

Also I've got the Blu-Ray of Monsters v. Aliens as a Rip (x264 - two files, one for each eye), but also as FUll-BD. However I'm not interested to save the whole image of this BluRay, it would be a waste of diskspace. Rather i would like to play the Rip in Mediaportal (Moving Pictures). But how is this possible?

So far I've seen no thread about playing 3D movies. But as I suggest that in foreseeable time, people change to 3D devices, i hope Team Mediaportal is working on a 3D solution already. I hope my suggestion is right, so that we can see 3D movies on our TV very soon ;-)

I think it's not only a thing of the codec. Hoborg already implemented the last PDVD10 decoder in SAF 5.00. More interesting, is the simultaneous playback of these two mkv files.
I think an enhancement of the current mediaportal player is here necessary. Would be great to see this in the roadmap of Mediaportal!

i would guess that it's not going to happen in mp (1), i know that mp2 can play 2 video files at the same time, but the question remains how it needs to be done for 3d movies and how much processing power is needed.

Currently there are many different style of sources for 3D in video files. One of the worst ideas is to have two different "physical" video files (.mkvs for example), I wonder who came up with that idea... MKV should be capable of having multiple video streams.

Best would be if source and decoder filters would itself directly to start to support the 3D formats (there are numerous different ways to pack the two different channels). If player applications itself need to be running two different graphs to decode the videos and then mix those in EVR presenter it will be just really ugly hack.

I myself wont see at least me bying a 3D in few next years (if ever :)), so I personaly wont be investigating the 3D support for MP2 (nor MP1).

It seems for me that the side-by-side encoding gets more and more popular. Also PDVD10 does support this.

Unfortunately i don't know how to implement this to MP1.1 (otherwise I would instantly give it a try). As Hoborg told me in SAF 5.00, that only installation of PDVD10 and latest SAF 5.00 will not give me the ability to play this stuff. Although i don't know why it is not possible to play it back with these things, I only can say I hope the team rolls out a solution to give us the possibility to play side-by-side Mkv's.

I have a Samsung 3D TV and for play mkv 3D you can use Mediaportal. You will see 2 videos side by side but in your TV you can press a button and choose 3D side by side and merge the video, then connect your glasses and that´s it. For blueray iso you also can use Mediaportal with the arcsoft mediaplayer plugin.

Its not just playing the files but also sending the correct information to the TV over HDMI 1.4. Half resolution side by side or top and bottom is the best compromise at the moment, as it bypasses any issues and works the same as normal video. Of course the 1920x540 or 960x1080 final resolution is not that great. Checkerboard gives a final resolution of 1358x764, but it is not as well supported. Beyond that we are at the mercy of Nvidia and ATI for updates that allow HDMI 1.4 signals to be sent to the TV. Nvidia are still dragging their feet for non nvidia 3d vision users, not sure about ATI.
