Playing dvr-ms file of MCE 2005 in MediaPortal (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

I'm new to MediaPortal and I just loved it.
Recently I've installed version 1.1.3 (can't wait for 1.2.0 already...).
Up until today I've used MCE 2005 but decided to move to MP due to it's power/support/skins/remote recording etc. So I've installed MP and I have overcome the most of the issues.

The main problem I currently have is that I have a lot of shows I've recorded using MCE 2005 which is using dvr-ms format.
I want to be able to watch those shows in MP under "Movies". But when I'm trying to watch any of them I get the following error:
Can not play video [name of the video file]
Video codec: MPEG VIDEO VERSION 2
Audio codec: MPEG AUDIO VERSION 1 LAYER 2

I did try to choose different codecs with no help. Note that I don't need to import those dvr-ms shows into MP recording (although it could be nice), I just want to be able to watch them the same as any regular video I'm watching (I've added the folder to the "Movies" folders).
Can you tell me if MP should be able to display such a video? (the dvr-ms extension does exists in the supported extensions)
If yes - can you tell me what is wrong in my setup? (my current codecs are" PowerDVD 7, ffdshow, Matroska)

Thanks,
Yossi

Hmm, MP should be able to play them out of the box. Could you post your logs?

BTW: If you are waiting for Beta 1.2.0, just go ahead, it is available since your post ;) but still beta only of course.

funny.... I didn't notice that 1.2.0 Beta was just released, I thought it would be next week.

Regarding the logs - sure I can provide them but can you please tell me where are they written?

    Hi yossigab

Go to the Start menu mediaportal folder, there you can run in debug mode, which when you have repeated the problem, will drop zipped log files onto the desktop for you to upload using the forum advanced + feature.

Thank you all for your help.
I have created the logs and they are attached to this message.

Please note that I'm using Hebrew as an alternate language so the dvr-ms file contain strings which have Hebrew letters (this is why you'll see some gybrish letters in the strings inside the logs).
Do you think this could be related to my problem ? Or this might be something else?

    Hi yossigab,

It looks like some filter issues are preventing the playback. You selected ffdshow filter to be used for video & audio (correct?).

Please check the ffdshow Video filter settings that it is allowed to decode mpeg 2 video content. That could be the issue.

Thanks a lot. I will check it over the weekend (since I had to switch back to my old MCE due to the playing issues)

    Hi yossigab,

try a "dirty trick". Copy one dvr-ms file with your recording from MCE 2005 to your MediaPortal recording directory, change extension to *.ts and start import recording database (SetupTv.exe). It is possible that you can play your old recording movie in the MediaPortal recording enviroment. But it is only my idea... unwarranted. :(

    JiRo.
