Looking for some info on what other people are doing, or get some suggestions on this one.

Does anyone use MediaPortal to keep track of, and watch, home movies?

I searched around a bit and didn't find anything for this, but was surprised that someone here wasn't doing it.

Other than just naming the files with a good standard, and just playing them from the video browser, I can't think of a nice way to do it.

I couldn't find any plug-ins that would likely do this, but I may have missed something.

Open to any suggestions from you guys!

Cheers!!

I've also been searching for a way to organsise home movies and possibly adding some fanart but the search results don't really return anything useful.

Sure it can be done, but it all depends on users, their time and creativity. Also you need to do manual entries in the video database by using Video Database editor in Configuration. In current official version of MP, to use fanart you need to do it manually (create one then copy it to corresponding folder -> more here: https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...plugin-v2-2-3-197-music-fanart-scraper-90094/), in 1.2.0 you can add fanart in the database and MP will take care of it.

How to use editor you can see for V 1.1.x here Video Database 1.1.0 - MediaPortal Wiki
and for 1.2.x release you can see what can be done here Video Database 1.2.0 - MediaPortal Wiki

First step is to add video file then you need to fill other fields manually, ofc good advice is to create one Unique genre ie. Home videos so they can be distinguish from other videos if you use them.

I'm interested in doing the same thing - watching home videos using the Video section/plugin/tool in MP. It works ok in folder view but I noticed empty folders are included - is there any way to have it ignore empty folders?

The reason I have empty folders is because all of the videos are stored alongside my pictures based on which year and month they were taken. So some months I will have pictures and no videos but this folder still shows up under videos.

Is there any option to ignore empty folders for both pictures and video sections?

I don't know if this is what you are looking for, but you can play videos from the Pictures Menu. This is what I do, that way I can keep my home movies separate from my Hollywood type movies. You just need to enable play movies made from my camera in the Pictures portion of setup.
