Synopsis::

I am having trouble playing .rmvb files within mediaportal. They play fine in mediaplayer classic and my other .avi files work within mediaportal. is ther any way to get media portal to play the rmvb files?
Thanks

You might wanna try RealAlternative. (If not already done, not sure, cause you said MPC worked)

If that doesn't help, describe "trouble" a bit more. Did you add .rmvb to your extensions list in configuration.exe/movies/movie extensions?

If this doesn't help either, you might wanna post a log.

I've noticed on a few systems that realalternative doesn't always work with WMP. and others it works fine. No amount of tweaking or messing about seems to affect the fact that it works in MPC but not in WMP. And I have other systems on which it works perfectly, so be aware even though you will find instructions on how to install realalternative there is no guarantee that it will allow you to play rm from within WMP. I have MPC setup as my external player to play RMVBs. Would love it if MP could use MPC as its internal player in some way.

I seem to have resolved my rmvb probs with the internal player in MP, even with Realalternative installed I couldn't and still can't play rmvb's in WMP. However I have an MP installation I use to play with and it is kept relatively up to date as far as SVNs are concerned and recently I couldn't tell you when exactly an option has appeared for selecting codecs for post processing of movies. I selected all the RM codecs and put a check mark next to them, deselected my external player (MPC) and hey presto, RMVBs playing on my internal player! :) :)

Tried enabling FFDShow post processing, It opens up now but black screen on video, Audio ok!?

Not overly sure what you mean about a chack mark for the rm codecs, just installing latest svn now, maybe ill understand what you mean then?

Still problems,
Installed the latest SVN, found the part you meant where you can add codecs
added all my real ones and ticked them, same

also found real media splitter which claims to play rm in wmp, same!

Can you tell me exactly which real files you added & ticked to i can compare

Thanks

RealAudio Decoder
RealMedia Source
RealMedia Splitter
RealVideo Decoder

Prior to doing this RMVB's wouldn't play in WMP or MP, afterwards played great in MP but still not in WMP, even with realmedia splitter and Real Alternative installed. Have you got the correct screen as your primary screen in your display properties?

Got IT!!!!!!!

Ive been working on this problem all damn day, Ive found out the file i was testing it with is a slightly differnt to some others.

Open the files up in a graph editor and its showing on the video stream Real Splitter is outputting as "Real Video Premire Plugin", and there is no codec for this on my system

The ones that work are splitting and sending it out as "00 video stream" --->--- "real video decoder" --->--- "video renderer"

Looking around net it appears to me one of the files has been made by adobe premier with a plugin called, wait for it........

Real Video Premire Plugin

Ive tried installing it but it requires adobe premier and for what it is i cant be bothered clogging up my system, Ill just delete the file

Wish i had have chose a different one to test, would have saved me a good 10 hours
