Hi Guys,

I already posted this else where on the forums but only had one response. (I would also like to take this opportunity to apologise as I'm sure others have asked this same question but would like to customise it to my personal hardware/software setup.) :sorry:

I would like to use a spare xbox 360 full size remote on my HTPC with Media-portal and I don't know where to start , will my case even work with this remote or will I need to buy an external IR receiver? Any help is very much appreciated...

I have tried Girder, IRSS and Intelliremote to no avail (but don't really know how to configure them anyway), but the whole thing is really starting to annoy me. I can see that the IR built into the case is receiving a signal from the remote as when I a press any keys the disk icon on the LCD displays briefly, however I don't know how to get Window/Mediaportal to recognise the input. Please please please can anyone help as I'm going round in circles!

I will list below any hardware/software configs to assist you:

O/S - Windows XP SP3
Media-Portal Version - 1.0.2.0 (I have downloaded 1.1.0 but not yet installed it) (Black Glass Nova skin)
iMON 7.77.1022 (I know there is a bone of contention on the forums for iMON but this is the only one that works for me!)
PC Case Antec Fusion v2 black
I am also using the mini-display plugin in MP to display film info, which is very handy!
AC3 Filter 1.51a
CCCP (21-9-2008)
ReClock 1.6

Anyway guys, if you need more info on my setup just reply and I'll get back asap.

Thanks again

Langers :D

Sorry to break the news to you, but iMON software only processes codes from iMON remote or MCE remote. The hardware is capable, but the system is proprietary. :(

I'm presently using mine with MCE, but I'm considering tearing the guts out of the iMON and putting a different receiver inside...

+1 to that...I love my MCE remote now, but could do without the ugly lump that sits on my case, which has a perfectly good iMon receiver built into it.

    Hi

I have been using Antec Fusion with MCE remote for some years, I have just rebuilt my system to win 7 and MP Final :D Loving it.

Anyway back on topic I got fed up using the MCE remote through the Imon receiver so I decided to integrate the proper receiver into the case and it was fairly easy I think.

Basically I have it plugged in at the back and it comes in through a blank PCI slot cover thru into the CD/DVD drive bay, I broke open the MCE remote receiver block and discarded the front and top. I have the circuit board sat on the bottom half of the MCE receiver case underneath the CD/DVD drive it fits with about 2mm to spare :D It is just held down with insulation tape with the remote sensor facing forward right up against the front of the case. Then I just cut a small whole in the plastic underneath the metal front of the case just below the CD/DVD drive bay. It all fits and works perfectly, now fully functional remote. The one thing I would do differently is drill a couple of wholes in the case instead of cutting it with a stanley knife as I did it would just be a neater job I think. The MCE remote sensor is very responsive and does not need much of a signal to work.

Oh I just covered the Imon remote sensor with insulation tape also ;-)

If you prefer not to have a USB cable going out through an open slot, you can connect the MCE IR receiver internally using a USB header adapter. This is contingent on having an available USB header on your motherboard.

The adapters come in very different shapes, and you should verify what will fit on your motherboard before you buy.

    Examples:
Newegg.com - StarTech USBMBADAPT 6" USB A Female to USB Motherboard 4 Pin Header F/F ADAPTER
    Newegg.com - Koutech USB 2.0 Header-Pin to Dual Type-A adapter Model IO-UU220
Newegg.com - StarTech USBMBADAPT2 2 Port USB Motherboard Header Adapter

if the ir signal is being picked up by your ir sensor, it should be able to be mapped.
if you map each keypress (i use IRSS's Translator), you should be able to use almost any ir device/remote.

I use an old DVD player remote on my laptops internal IR this way.

Good work Simon169! I had considered this, but I am a nightmare with the stanley, and like my fingers too much - now if I could just find a sensible adult to supervise me! I don't suppose you took any photos of what the MCE sensor insides look like did you?
