Ongoing Please Help! Running Hot! Scythe Ninja Mini (2 Viewers)

Can someone please help me find out why my CPU is running so hot...

I bought a scythe ninja mini heatsink this week in the hope that i could make my htpc run a little quieter and cooler. whilst it is definately a lot quieter, i seem to be having problems with keeping the cpu temperatures down.

Im running an AMD athlon 64 X2 4200 (inside an antec fusion case) and while one of the cores has now become cooler (down from ~40deg to just over 30deg when watching tv), the other core has rocketed and now runs at nearly 60deg!

ive tried installing the fan & heatsink with varying amounts of thermal paste, and in various fan configurations, but i still cant get the cpu temp below 55 degrees.

heres some screeners of my setup, the current direction of air flow from the fans, and the readouts from speedfan. Apologies for the dodgy screen shots, but i dont have my memory stick to transfer print screens over to this pc

One thing i did notice was that speedfan has one of the cores named as 'NVidia Video Card'. I havent got the 2nd cpu core temperature confused with my graphics card temperature have I??

Which motherboard do you have ? I had the same problem with my Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H Rev.1.0
Undervolting the CPU did the trick. See my thread

Yep, the core temperatures will only vary by 1-3 degrees at most, so the high temperature sound more than likely your Graphics.

ps my temperatures with the normal heatsink are between 38-50C max, so getting 30-40 is pretty good in a enclosure of that size.

My mobo is a Gigabyte GA-M61PM-S2, so could possibly be a common gigabyte issue? ill give your thread a quick look. what do you mean by undervolting the cpu? is there a way to reduce the voltage on the cpu or something?

yeah i thought the massive difference in core temperatures was strange too, how do i tell in speedfan which one is referring to my graphics card, and which one to my cpu?

Öh, maybe I don't understand your problem but....your CPU runs at 34° and your graphic card at 58° what is not unusual.
I would also try everest so you have a comparison.

im not 100% sure whether it is the graphics card temperature or not, as speedfan has it labelled as 'core'. ive got no problem with my graphics card running that hot as its passive, but i just want to make sure that its definately not the cpu thats being measured.

Shinto, ive just read your thread about undervolting, and id like to give it a go, but i cant find where the option is in my BIOS to reduce the cpu voltage. ive pressed CTRL+F1 to bring up the extra options but cant find it anywhere.

Maybe I don't quite understand but does your motherboard have 2 sensors for cpu temperature? If in the bios it only shows a single temperature for the cpu then I would imagine speedfan would only be able to show one cpu temperature and the other temp is your graphics card?

Ah ok. I'm relative sure that the graphic card has it own core. Simply install everest, it's often more detailed.

yes, the BIOS only shows one cpu temperature. the reason i thought speedfan showed a temperature for each core is that i have a quad core processor at work, and speedfan displays a temperature for each core on there:

Your fan setup is not really efficient.

It always better when a fan blows the air onto a heatsink
than sucking it away from the heatsink.

You should turn around all of the three fans,
this should already drop the temperatures considerably.
