ok. i have been struggling for about 4 weeks to get a decrnt setup that works on my HTPC. i am back again struggling to understand and get to grips with MP as it looks like it has the potentioal to do all i need but i hit brick walls most of the time
perhaps if i explain where i am and what i want someone will be able to help
i want to get a fully automated family friendly system running that wil play TV, browse and play my stored movies both avi's and dvd's plus play my standa alone dvd's and blurays. all at the correct refresh rate.

i got TV working at last...phew
i installed streamedmp and got it to show my movie collection. also launch files through MPC

but i am struggling to get bluray and sd dvd's to show up and play through TMT
please help

Have you tried the moving pictures plugin? Moving Pictures - MediaPortal Forum

This will download the backdrop info for your movies (when you have told the plugin where they are all stored). If you have setup the DVD codec section correctly it will allow native playback of DVDs (there is an option to detect DVDs when they are inserted into your drive within moving pictures).

You can also setup TMT as an external player under the advance settings section of Moving Pictures (under the blueray playback option). The blueray will show in your list of films as a piece of removable media) and will automatically run TMT when you select that film.

    Give it a go!

    thanks
i use media master center to get all my metadata and moving pictures is installed with StreamedMP and i see all my movies (takes ages to use the fist time even though all the data is there already)
but i tried and failed to get either dvd's and especially the bluray option to work. this is when i gave up and is a pity
i also tried the arcsoft plugin but that failed to change refresh rates

it seems MP has so much potential but its too glitchy

    - it is probably grabbing it's own metadata rather than re-using yours.

have you read the guide to setting up the refreshrate changer to work with Moving Pictures (on the moving pictures website - Here: Configuring Bluray and HDDVD playback - Moving Pictures

but i tried and failed to get either dvd's...
You need to supply a little more data to explain why they are not working. Have you tried just using the MP internal player and configuring MP correctly? DVD Discs/Images Codecs - MediaPortal Wiki

What are the symptoms when you try to play a disc (or does it just not show the film name in the list of films - if so, make sure the DVD options are set correctly here: http://moving-pictures.tv/wiki/Configuration_Menu_GUI_Settings)?

Does basic DVD playback work using the DVD Play option in MP Homescreen?

Can you post your logs along with the above answers to allow people to diagnose your problem.

    - I am not sure I agree with you. When the setup guides are followed things tend to work very well for me. When I have encountered glitches the MP community has always helped me if I post my logs with a good technical description. I am sure they will be able to help you.
