You don't need alot of memory as long as it's a pure HTPC-computer, I have no problem running MP and watching 1080p movies with my HD3200 board with Vista.
The only reason I can see to go with a dedicated board on the AMD side is the audio part and the "AMD stream" support.
But if you a Nvidia board you get the same audio output as you do with dedicated boards.
