Hello together,

Usually I'm a non blogger and I avoid writing in forums.

But I have a problem, which I can't solve.

Media portal needs more than 1 day (!!!!!) to fill up the EPG lists (DVB S2). I don't think that's normal. What I'm doing wrong? It's extremely annoying - if I want to quickly record something, I always must enter it manually.

I'd very happy about sme help!

Thanx a lot!!

Welcome to the forum, hontier.
1. How many channels do you have ?
2. How do you expect it to work?
You probably aware that for grabbing EPG MP has to tune to this channel and wait some time, so it really depend on how many channels do you have and how many time has Mediaportal during the day to have possibility to tune all channels (meaning that at least one tuner for every channel has to be free - no recording and no timeshifting).

AW: Poor EPG functionality

Hi!

Thank you for your answer.

If got about 60 active channels.

I expect, that within about 1-2h (MP server and/or client idle, that's accepted) the lists should be complete.
I furthermore expect, that tuning in a channel should force the corresponding EPG list to be loaded within 5-10 minutes.
I furthermore expect, tha if I call a program group via "TV programs" this group (in my case not more than 10 channels) to be filled within 1h.
I furthermore expect that the MP server loads the lists, i.e. MP client not required to be open.

I think theses expectations are reasonable.

I will list my observations later since I don't have collected those precisely up to now and I don't want to post rubbish.

Best regards,

hontier

hontier,
1,2 and 4 should work as you expected.
about 3 - i don't understand what do you mean with "call a program group via "TV programs"". In MP program group is only for convinience when doing smth with channels, not more.

So you are picking up the DVB EPG? Does your provider actually transmit more than one days worth of EPG?

    What provider do you use?

Have you set both idle and timeshifting options for EPG grabbing

If you have only 60 Active Channels, check that all the others have the "Grab DVB-EPG" Option disabled.

Check your EPG time out value as well. If this is set really high (more than 5-10 minutes) then it could be sat there for a long time waiting on each channel.

    AW: Poor EPG functionality

Thanks all for the lot of statements and answers.

I've already set all configuration tips listed here (short time out, all chennels open for EPG, EPG only for used channels (lower than 60), etc.).

And yes, all providers do send the signal, since meanwhile (after 5 days permanent on time with less than 20% recording activity) all lists are filled.

I understand, that this seems to be a particular problem of my system.

I'll observe furtheron, maybe I'll find a trick to speed up (semms unlikely, bnut who knows).

    Best wishes to all.

Which country are you in? and which SVB-S service are you trying to get.

There are various ways to improve/speed things up. e.g. use XMLTV to get the EPG, or for Sky in the UK there is a radio channel that holds the whole EPG, so you use that and it populates quickly.

Also - thanks for the informative and logical posts, nice change from the usual "my EPG doesnt work, this sucks, I am going to product ABC!" ;)
