Beware that MediaPortal may be slow as hell to respond to user requests when dealing with large collections of files at once. Something that MythTV seems to suffer less from (in my own experience). The MediaPortal UI looks good but it was not made to handle over-sized file repositories (see your points #2 and #3). Otherwise, everything should be fine and the MediaPortal experience is really, really pleasant in the end.
