Possible to disable the music database? (2 Viewers)

I'd like NOT to use the Music Database at all. No indexing, no reading tags what so ever.

However, no matter how often I uncheck the "Scan Music Folders" in configuration, ALL folder are getting checked again automagically.

Anyone knows how to get rid of it?

Do you see any messages in the MP log, when the Music Folders are checked?
Are you saying the "Scan Music Folders" gets always back as Checked altough you unchecked it?

That's the correct behaviour as this is meant NOT as monitoring, but as one-time-scan. It will only scan the checked folders if you additionally click on the "scan now" (or similar) button.

During using MP the DB should not be used...

Thanks for your reply, but there's still something fishy going on...

Every now and then I clear the database, and then it's all fine.

    I name my songs <Track> - <Title>.mp3
    For example: 01 - Personal Jesus.mp3

Since I invested some time in naming (and tagging) them I'd like them to be presented that way in MP. Always. No tag reading, no database.

Just to show you what I mean I took two screenshots today.

The first is with a clean database.

    screenshot1.jpg

The second is a minute later, when I played/skipped though all songs in that folder, went up one folder level and then back.

Voilá, another - unwanted - view that is based on tags, not the filenames.

Maybe I'm just plain stupid, but in that case - please enlighten me :)

    Hi,
Have you disable the "Load ID3 tag's etc..) in MP setup -> General settings?

In MP Setup -> Music -> Music views, you can make your own settings for the views.

    Hi,

the "Load ID3 tag's etc.." is not checked.

I know I can create my own views, but thats is a little over the top, don't you think?

It should be so much easier just to setup MP not to read tags. Ever.

Maybe I should just surrender, but the thing is I really want this to work.
A system without tag reading is (to my best knowledge so far) much faster. Just the way I like it.
As a bonus, you get the view you deserve - easy to read if you have named your files in a good manor. Impossible to read if not..

    But thanks for the tip!

It should not add anything to database, when that is disabled & you not run the "update database..." tool.

In MyMusic when playing, is the Sort by set to file?

No, default it is set to "by name".

But as you see in the screenshots, the same view and sorting is used - but still the listing is different.
The only thing that happened between the pictures is that the song are played once and I went up one folder level, then back again. Nothing more.

Is there a hidden service I can stop or a manual hack in the configuration perhaps?

Can you set it to sort by: file & test.

I'll test this later today, maybe there are something wrong there.

    No problemo.

Sortera efter: Fil is Swedish for Sort by: File

First time Mediaportal opens the folder:

    screenshot3.jpg

Second time, after I played a few songs:

    screenshot4.jpg

It seems as MediaPortal reads all tags when I first open the folder and/or play a song.
This time I only skipped through 4 songs, but all song's tags were read anyway.

    Thanks for your quick response!

    Regards,
    Anders
