So the new MP box is installed and working pretty nicely. For the past few days I’ve been ripping my DVDs and actually getting to enjoy it.

As you can see from my System Config on the left, I’m running 15pin-VGA to the plasma and Optical SPDIF (TOSLINK) to the Onkyo Amp. The main objective is the play DVD VIDEO_TS Folders from the HDD, and it should look and sound the same (or better) as the real physical disc in the dedicated DVD Player. I like using the build-in MP player with just the PowerDVD-9 codecs.

DVD Codecs
- DVD Navigator: DVD Navigator
- - DVD video decoder: CyberLink Video/SP Decoder (PDVD9)
- - DVD audio Decoder: CyberLink Audio Decoder (PDVD9)
- - Audio Renderer: Default DirectSound Device

All the DVDs (actually Folders) that are encoded in DolbyDigital 5.1 (the majority) work fine.

The problem child is “Terminator 2 – Extreme DVD Edition”. It’s got a few places where the sound drops out for a second or two, but it’s not the amp changing modes or losing the signal.

During initial testing, this is what I found out…
- In Windows with PowerDVD9 player, both the actual DVD and the folder play fine.
- Inside MP, both the actual DVD and the folder both have the same audio drop-outs, always in the same places.

After trying various things, I narrowed it down to this being the only change:

DVD Codecs
- DVD Navigator: DVD Navigator
- - DVD video decoder: CyberLink Video/SP Decoder (PDVD9 UPnP)
- - DVD audio Decoder: CyberLink Audio Decoder (PDVD9 UPnP)
- - Audio Renderer: Default DirectSound Device

Does anyone know if this is correct? What are the “PDVD9 UPnP” codecs really intended for?

Also, which of the following should Audio Renderer be on:
Default DirectSound Device
DirectSound: Realtek HD Audio output
CyberLink Audio Renderer (PDVD9)
