Thanks - I'll have a read.  I want to know what happens if my PC has multiple user accounts, i.e. how Media Portal handles logging in when restarting from standby.

Also, if running a power saving mode, what does Media Portal do?  Will my PC go to standby if the keyboard/mouse isn't touched for the specified amount of time (in Power options)?

Presumably there's some way to stop that, so I'll have a look in the documentation.
