Hello all, I've got a question about the display power off. Windows is set to power off the display after a certain amount of time, this is great when the PC is idle. However when I'm playing music through teamviewer I want to watch the lyrics and fan art but for some reason the display powers off believing the machine to be idle. Is there any way to stop the display from powering off only while media portal is playing music, etc? The rest of the time I'm happy with the display powering off.

cheers

The only way to prevent display power off is to disable it in Windows. When you use a LCD/TFT it is not necessarily to use power off settings for your display. This is an outdated feature for CRT-Monitors to avoid burn in effects.

I wish to power off the display to save on power consumption for most idle events. Watching movies does not power off the display (which is what we want) so somehow that process is reporting to windows that the display isn't idle so it won't power off. I'd like the same feature for when playing music and with lyrics and fan art. Is there any way to do this?

No way. Call to Redmond ... :D The Windows power status depends on actions with keyboard ore mouse. All other activitys will be ignored but a movie is playing. Thats the problem for you. Windows can't recognized your personal preferences.

Windows can't, but surely MP could.

Currently in MP there is a setting to blank the video output when the system has been inactive for longer than a certian period. Presumably the code could be changed to give another sub-option to let the user choose of playing music counts as activity or not. It is possible for PowerScheduler (which doesn't send the HTPC to sleep when music is playing), so why is this not possible for the display blanking function too?
