Synopsis::

Mediaportal hangs at around 2% when trying to compress AC3 audio DVR-MS files to MPG.

The happens on multiple recordings so it seems to be a general problem.

I haven't been able to get compress to XVID working and now compress to MPG doesn't work for AC3 recordings.

About to give up.

Any suggestions on how to diagnose problem such as these?
Is there any extra logging I can turn on?
Error reporting?
Anything?
Anyone?

Thanks
Luke.

Converting to MPG did work for me. Though I'm not sure at the moment if the ones I tried had AC3 audio or just 2ch.

Have you been able to get non-AC3 recordings to work?

The problem I have with this feature is the Mpeg file is in some sort of non-standard format. Why isn't it a .ts file instead of mpeg2? I'm using a Vbox card, which may be the problem. The mpeg file cannot be played back by VLC player or WMP, only Zoomplayer will do it with the Nvidia purevideo filter. And I can't load the mpeg file into anything else such as VirtualDub because it gives back an unrecognized format error.

Non AC3 to MPG seems to work fine.

The AC3 DVR-MS streams are rendered correctly by Graphedit and play OK in MP so I'm not sure what the problem with compressing then to MPG is.

PS - My copy of VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.2 opens the MPG files OK.
I do get a lot of these from VDub though:

[!] MPEG: Anachronistic or discontinuous timestamp found in audio stream 29 at byte position 1417119762, from 2916 to 99487735. This may indicate an improper join.

Which codec am I using at the moment....checking...

Graphedit says DScaler but I think I've had it working with both the NVidia and Intervideo decoders.

I've just gone through a heap of my recordings with Graphedit - some of the AC3 recordings were converted to MPG correctly.

I initially thought that ALL AC3 were hanging at around 2% but now it seems that only some of them are hanging. Some were converted OK.

Back to the drawing board.

my hunch would be that the shows which aren't converting weren't recorded properly - how's your reception? maybe you're getting glitches in the reception which could also explain the vdub error?

My reception seems pretty good. I do occasionally get "No Signal" but I've assumed it was a problem with MP rather than my reception. It always comes back after a second or two.

The files that I can open in VDub have already been converted so the errors in VDub didn't prevent MP from compressing the original DVR-MS files.

The DVR-MS files that won't compress can be played OK in MP.

I'm running a few tests now to try to narrow down what will compress and what won't.

what about the channels they were recorded from? is their any pattern like certain channels won't convert?

(sweet... 100 posts :D)

mh. i convert all my recordings to mpeg in MP and when the source was AC3, the mpeg has it too.

after that i convert all recordings to divx and it stays that way with AC3.
