[solved] Problem installing MSVC 2008 w/ MP 1.7.1 (1 Viewer)

So my first post gets to be with problems installing! I'm trying to install MediaPortal 1.7.1 and everything runs smooth until it tries to install MS Visual C++ 2008 SP1 KB973552, which crashes, and ends the installation. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate with all current updates (just ran on 6/11/2014). So far, I've tried downloading this version of MSVC directly, and it crashes as well. I looked through my installed programs and I had MS Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable x86 9.0.30729.6161 installed, so I uninstalled that. Trying both MP setup and installing MSVC again results in failure for both. I've tried this both under my user account and as admin, neither any more successful. Any ideas what else I can try to get past this hump?

UPDATE: Rebooting PC fixed the problem. :-/
