Problem setting TV codecs (FFD / PDVD8) (2 Viewers)

This weekend I got my WinTV-NovaHS-S2 card connected to the satellite and I am finally getting the HD channels.

Prior to using the HD channels I scaled-up all my SD channels (via freeview) to 1080p using ffdshow as a post-processor. Now in order to get HW acc working so I can view the HD channels I have to disable this FFD postprocess to use the PDVD8 codec other wise I get jumpy playback.

If I set the mpeg decoder to be mpv and the h264 to be PDVD then all is fine and both plays back at their native resolutions. Now if I set ffdshow to be the mpeg decoder whilst leaving the h264 as PDVD I have a problem. When viewing the HD channels it ffdshow is still getting in on the loop somewhere as it is breaking the HW-decoding.

Question 1 is... why is ffdshow doing anything on the h264 channel when it is set not to?

Question 2 is... how do I set it that ffdshow is used for mpeg only (and I've set it to scale to 1080p) and has NO effect on h264 (HD) channels?

Thanks

most likely it is trying to post process the hd tv stream? If you disable post processing does it still break h/w acceleration

I agree but I've removed the ffd postprocess option from the tv setup in mp config. it's annoying that ffd is still on the act when it is not even a selected pp option

Have you actually checked that ffdshow is in the graph with graphedit?

Assuming it is, I don't know the answer as to why, but maybe try going into the ffdshow settings and turning off h.264 / avc under codecs section. If you've got PDVD and a DXVA card, you really don't want ffdshow in the mix with h.264 at all.

There is something a bit strange about the ts splitter that comes with MP. It seems to connect its output to some unexpected codecs sometimes.
