    Hi,

I have previously used MPA as my audio codec, and the 5.1 surround sound works perfectly. I configure it in the directshow filter pane of the configuration tool.

Due to a couple of issues, I have tried to switch to the powerdvd 8 codec. The directshow configuration pane is slightly different, but the only thing I can configure is the number of speakers. I have set this to 6, assuming that this is 5.1. However, when I do this, I am only getting sound from my front left and right speakers.

There are far too many people using powerdvd codecs for this to be a real problem, but I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction.

    Thanks,

    Mark

Is your version of powerdvd 8 licenced for 6 speaker output ? - quite often the OEM bundled versions are only licenced for 2 channel output, so even though you can ask it to do 6 channel output it won't actually do it.

Have you tried checking the filter graph with GraphStudio etc to see if MP is actually using the codec ?

If you need an alternative audio codec, try ac3filter (mpeg/ac3/dts up to 6 channels) - AC3Filter | AC3Filter - or ffdshow (just about everything up to 8 channels, but make sure you disable all the ffdshow video codecs if you just want it for audio - it tends to be a bit invasive on the default settings).

I was very happy until I have installed OEM PowerDVD comes with my LiteOn BluRay Drive but afterwards I had similar problems.

After one week investigation and internet search I solved %95 of my problem and now my MP drives anything to to my receiver over SPDIF properly except multichanel BluRay sound played with PDVD or TMT.

I'm using FFDShow and SPDIFER. I disabled all AC3, MP3 , MPG Audio , ACC , DTS on FFDShow. They are all handled by SPDIFER.

You can use graphstudio to see which filters is in use to decode video or audio for certain media file type and if you are not happy the one in use you can change it to any other filter. ( This changes done in system level )
