Hi

I used to run an old version of Mediaportal, worked fine.
because of update problems with my windows 7, I did a new install of windows 7.
I updated to the latest.
then I installed MP1.17.0 en configured it using a youtube instruction.
I think I must have done something wrong because when I startup MP it doesn't initialise derictx en give an error.
I attached de error, a diagnostic file and an MPlogfile.
I hope someone can help me .

thanks in advance

Huub

Hi.

I did a complete uninstall of MP and a reinstall of MP1.18.0
the result is the same, an error with Directx3d.
I attached the log files

    Hello

Sorry to say it, but I think your hardware - specifically: your GPU/video/graphics - is not compatible with modern versions of MediaPortal.

    Hi,
had the same issue recently on my laptop with win10 (see the TEST system in my systems specifications). Following a complete uninstall of all MP related programs using the full removal option, I reinstalled MP1.18 in singleseat configuration. When starting MP in windowed mode I get the same DirectX error as the OP. Since I have two graphics card I tried forcing the use of the discrete one (AMD R7 M265) instead of the integrated one (Intel HD4400) but that didn't change anything. Running MP in fullscreen works without issues.
Not sure if this adds info to the issue at hand but I think my hardware should be able to cope with MP just fine.
Let me know what kind of info I can provide to help.
    Regards,
    B.

    @BigEgo
    Thanks for chiming in. :)

Let me know what kind of info I can provide to help.
Please start by attaching full log files (Watchdog option 1) from the test system.

P.S. I should warn: don't get your hopes up. If the hardware is not capable then there's nothing that can be done.

well this is strange: it seems I can't reproduce the issue anymore. I used the watchdog as requested and now all logs before today seems to have disappeared, is this expected? I was planning to attach the old ones of when the error occurred but I can't find them.
Here are the results from today's test anyway. Maybe I'll try doing a new reinstall to see if it happens again.

Wondering if your issues are related to hybrid graphics.

Wouldn't be surprised: hybrid graphics is a very nice feature but is definitely a fragile setup.

    Anyway here are more info:
    - Uninstalled MP with full uninstall option
    - Reinstalled MP1.18
    - Start MP Config and deselect Fullscreen
    - Start in Windowed mode and got the DirectX error (logs attached using watchdog option 1)
    - Start MP Config selected fullscreen
    - Start in fullscreen and everything works fine (logs attached)
    - Switched back to windowed, error still there
    - Started in fullscreen, played a file, switched back to windowed...now there's no error (logs attached)

Funny thing: when I first got this error I tried searching the forums and the best match was a thread from 4 years ago so I scrubbed it to an issue related to my config (hybrid graphics being the major suspect), now finding this thread from a week ago got me suspicious that maybe it wasn't just me.

Case closed as far as functionality is concerned (now everything is working) but if this might be of help or if you need further tests let me know! Hoping that maybe this can help also the OP even if maybe the cause could be different.
