Since dvr-ms files with AC3 audio are playing fine in WMP, I tried to edit them in VirtualDub using AviSynth and DirectShowSource() (downmixing is fine with me). The result was, that I only got a video stream, but no audio stream. AviSynth reported a time out on connecting the audio stream.
Checking with graphedit I found that MPA is selected by default by DirectShow for AC3 within MPEG. While this seems to work well in a player like WMP, avisynth has problems with it. Removing the MPA decoder (strange enough, just lowering the filter priority did not help) and using AC3Filter (MPEG has to be enabled within) or ffdshow (AC3 has to be enabled within), everything works: I can easily open and convert my using VirtualDub!
So everything is fine for me, but I wanted to report that. Maybe someone can explain why MPA is not working in that context or someone else is trying the same. I searched the forum, but didn't find anything related.
I'm using MP 0.2.3 RC3, AviSynth 2.5.7 and VirtualDub 1.7.6.
