Problem with optical SPDIF (1 Viewer)

I have to connect my HTPC computer to external receiver via optical SPDIF.
It works with mediaportal, but I receive stereo only, instead 5.1 DTS/AC3. I was able to got normal 5.1 DTS/AC3 sound using VLC player, when choose "A52 over SPDIF" option in Audio->Audio Device. I got high quality multichannel sound.
How may I do the same thing with internal player? I tried to use "Use AC3 filter" option without any affect, sound still stereo. I downloaded and installed AC3 filter from AC3Filter site and was able to got multichannel sound, but delayed and distorted. More from this - when I uninstalled AC3 filter ver 1.63b, the issue with distorted sound still exist and only after full mediaportal reinstallation I got the normal sound, but in stereo again...

I tested it with onboard Realtec ALC655 sound card and with external Creative USB X-Fi surround card.

I can't install any different sound card because my HTPC is small factor Everex gPC computer, that not allow additional cards installation.

Any ideas?

I had similar problems.

I used SAF 4 which has settings to pass through AC3 to SPDIF.

Works pretty well. Can do a lot more also.

Make sure while installing you select the option to pass through SPDIF!

If you need help with specific settings i can give you some of mine, though as always settings depend on actial configuration.

I actually use SAF 5 unlocked to get around delayed audio when using AC3 but you might not have same problems.
