A new card, Hauppauge PVR-500 and new problems.
I have installed everything in Vista Ultimate and everything works good. But I dont like MCE so I installed XP and Mediaportal.
And the PVR-500 was installed but I cant get my included remote to work. In the device manager it is a mark on eHome infrared tranceiver or something like that.
I have tried everyting but I cant get it to work. I must find a driver for this remote.

Someone who knows? It must be. Please!!!

Im sorry that I cant help you out Nybbe67.

I have exactly the same problem; an XP Pro SWE, Hauppauge remote 45b (PVR-500 MCE). I have tried several tips and trix but not got it right. I even found and followed a Danish post on how to get MCE funtionality into XP. (not working for me).

    Please advise.

Have you tried the mce replacement driver? I don't know if it will work, but I've heard of people using it for such things...

    Hope that helps,

    Hi

I use the remote that came with my PVR-500 but I think it is the MCE version (it looks very similar to the Microsoft MCE remote). I had difficulty getting it to work under XP Pro SP2 as really it is designed for MCE 2005 (it does work fine with Vista for me without any tweaks).

I know I tried a number of things and did get it to work. The list is below but I am not sure which specific thing made it work for me:

    1. Obtain a copy of the irbus.sys, irbus.inf, and irbus.pnf files from a Windows XP Pro SP2 install (I think I got these off of the SP2 update disk).
    2. Plug in your remote sensor.
    3. Uninstall any drivers that may be associated with your remote control via device manager.
    4. Unplug your remote sensor.
    5. Reboot.
    6. Copy irbus.sys to c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers and c:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386
    7. Copy irbus.inf and irbus.pnf to c:\WINDOWS\inf
    8. Reboot
    9. Plug in your remote sensor.
    10. The remote sensor should now be recognized properly from a driver perspective (i.e. no more code 10 error in device manager). Also, the MCE remote control setup wizard will now at least see the remote. However, the remote will not work -- MCE doesn't actually receive button presses.
    11. Download and install "Update Rollup 2 for eHome"
    12. Reboot.

I vaguely remember going into the properties of the remote in Device Manager and manually pointing it the .inf file which may have installed it.

As your remote may be different this might not work but could be worth trying some or all or these.

    Good luck

    Mew

The new PVR-500 MCE kit model 1039 is shipped with the "new" Microsoft Vista-only MCE remote and receiver (The remote is BLACK)...

Although some of the earlier versions of the Vista-only receivers could be made to work with Windows XP (but it wasn't easy or reliable), It is unlikely that you will get this new receiver working with Windows XP as it is designed for the new USBCIR system in Vista rater than the older IRBUS that is used with Windows XP.

So, you have a number of options...

    1) Search the forums... there are several threads that discuss ways to get the USBCIR system working in Windows XP (but none have a reliable solution)
    2) Install Windows Vista, and run MediaPortal instead of Vista MC (just because Vista includes Media Center doesn't mean that you a restricted to using it)
    3) Return your WinTV PVR500 MCE kit, and purchase a WinTV PVR500 OEM version. With the money you save, purchase a Microsoft MCE 2005 remote kit (with a SILVER remote)
    4) Keep your PVR500 MCE Kit and purchase an MCE 2005 remote (They are still available at retail in the US and Canada, and via eBay)

    Good luck!

I returned my PVR-500 and bought a Floppy DVT and a Ms remote. Installed Vista, and my problem was solved. Vista installed everything with default drivers.

    Ok - Problem solved: I found a IRBUS.inf that worked (DriverVer=07/01/2001,5.1.2600.2757)
    This how I did it:

    1. No IR-receiver attached
    2. copy/paste the inf provided in the attach. into the present IRBUS.inf
    3. reboot.
    4. plugged in IR-receiver
    5. When new hardware was found I let it go to windows update for drivers (5-6 times, lost count)
    6. Then just for fun; reboot
(I have the a swedish xp pro - but a rollup2(MCE 2005) seems not to be needed.)

The Hauppauge remote is alive and kicking :) I tried it out and Im satified. However Im not sure about the button set placed over the "arrow" buttons? How to use them, I have not found out if they are working or not. The rest do though... Can anyone provide any knowledge please?
