Hello there, please bear with me as I have just joined. Firstly I would like to thank the Mediaportal team for providing this software.
A bit of background info.
I am running Windows 8 Release Preview (as part of a dual boot system with Win 7) & I have been unsuccessfully looking for some tv tuner software to go with my tv tuner card until I found MP because as you may know Win 8 does not come with WMC.
As a test I have first installed MP on my Win 7 system & everything is working fine including live TV which is the main thing I wanted.
I then installed it on my Win 8 system & it mainly installed ok, but there is a problem with the tv server set up, the service won't run because of a socket exception. I have already checked the hosts file & the required settings are already there.
127.0.0.1 localhost &
::1 localhost

Any ideas please?

I have attached the error message.

I assume 192.168.1.65 is the ip address of your win7/win8 machine?
Could it be a firewall issue? Can imagine that the setup isn't (yet) able to correctly configure the win8 firewall.
You can also try (if not already done) disabling ipv6.

Thanks for the reply. I believe it is the ip address for my machine & according to the Mediaportal setup the firewall was configured correctly. I haven't tried disabling ipv6 yet. It would be interesting if anyone else has tried it on Win8 yet? I hope it isn't a major issue with Win 8 which goes on sale next week as I can imagine a lot of people trying to use this as WMC is not included..

Have checked Windows firewall on Win 8 & the tv server is definitely allowed. Also tried disabling ipv6, but made no difference. Strange everything else like the main Mediaportal configuration & the extension installer works okay.

Bit of an update, also have the same Win 8 installed on a different laptop & I installed Mediaportal on that. The exact the same thing happens on that as well! So must mean it is something to do with Win 8 & not the machine. Not very promising for those who want to use Mediaportal with Win 8 due to the lack of WMC.

    Hello Brendon

You're right - it is to do with Windows 8.

A quick search of the forum reveals this thread:

I think you'll have more luck if you try the patch from the 4th or 9th post.

    Hi mm,
Thank you very much for the link. Having just come across Mediaportal I didn't realise it was such a known & ongoing problem.
I haven't tried the fix yet, but will let you know the result when I do.

It isn't so much of an ongoing problem - it is just that we don't claim support for OSes that haven't been released yet. Sometimes that will require a patch. Hence the patches in that thread.
