Hi,

I would be grateful for any help advice on how to configure Media Portal to receive data from the svideo / composite input of my Hauppauge HVR4000 card. I can access this from WinTV but while I can see the analogue card from Mediaportal, clicking the "Add S-Video channels" says "Channels added" but nothing appears if I look at TV Mapping for the Hauppauge Win TV 88x Tuner.

All other functions are working OK, i.e. DVB-S/S2. These have scanned and added the channels, created the EPG and will play ok both locally and on a remote machine.

I am using Windows 2012 R2 server as the platform (yes I know it is not supported). However, I have installed the BDA drivers and Windows Server essentials and other than the popup saying it is not supported, other than accessing my svideo, all other features of Mediaportal work fine. Given WinTV can display the svideo / composite input suggests to me all the appropriate drivers, etc. are working.

I would really appreciate advice on how to get Mediaportal to access the svideo / composite input from this card.

Kind regards
Paul

    Hello Paul

    ...clicking the "Add S-Video channels"...
That's the right thing to do.

    ...says "Channels added"...
    Good. :)

...but nothing appears if I look at TV Mapping for the Hauppauge Win TV 88x Tuner.
TV mapping is not the best place to look. You may see the channels there, but you'd have to make sure you select the HVR-4000's analog tuner (not the DVB-T or DVB-S ones). If I were you I'd check the "TV Channels" section list for channels named like "CVBS#x on y" or "S-video#x on y" (x is the input number; y is the tuner ID).

If you still don't see the channels in the TV Channels section, please post the TV Server log files using the watchdog/debug mode tool with option 3.

However, I have installed the BDA drivers and Windows Server essentials and other than the popup saying it is not supported, other than accessing my svideo, all other features of Mediaportal work fine. Given WinTV can display the svideo / composite input suggests to me all the appropriate drivers, etc. are working.
Just to note: analog tuners and capture devices (including composite, s-video etc.) are controlled using the WDM/DirectShow interface. BDA is only for digital tuners.

    Regards,
    mm

Thanks for coming back so quickly. I have looked for the channels CVBS* or S-video* as you suggest and cannot see them. As requested I have run watchdog/ debug and uploaded the logs.

Please note: I have restarted the TV server a number of times (while testing WinTV) to prevent the TV server service interfering with the Hauppauge service (and vice versa). Also I have been using remote desktop for the testing but when I tried running the same commands from the console, there was no difference. I do not think remote desktop is causing me any issues.

    Kind regards
    Paul

    Hello again Paul

I don't see any problem in the logs.
You should have 2 composite (CVBS) inputs and 2 s-video inputs available.
Please try to click the "add s-video..." button again, and if you still can't find the channels after doing that then use the import/export section to export your channels. Zip and attach the resulting xml file and I'll double check that the channels are present.

    Regards,

    Hi mm,

Sorry for the delay in getting back on this matter. I checked the database (SQL 2012) and could see the CVBS or S-video channels were NOT recorded in the Channels table. So I:
    1) Removed WinTV and the Hauppauge drivers
    2) Reinstalled the Hauppauge drivers.
    3) Reinstalled Mediportal (clearing the database)

I was then able to add the S - video channels and they appeared in the Channels list but was unable to play them as there was no software encoder loaded. As recommended in the WIKI, I reinstalled WinTV (which now plays the analogue channels as before)

BUT when I try to play the channels with Mediaportal from the Preview in the TV Channels menu of TV-Server Configuration, I get the message: "Preview Failed:UknownError" and the TV server service stops. The only error in the system logs is: "
The TVService service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 3 time(s)."

I have uploaded the TV Server logs covering the period of the server crash to my restarting it.

    I would appreciate your advice.

    Thanks
    Paul

    Hi again Paul

    No problem about the delay.

I think the problem is that you've enabled the ServerBlaster plugin, but you haven't installed the Hauppauge IRBlast program. That's based on this:

If that isn't the problem then I'm going to need you to re-gather the logs with the watchdog/debug-mode tool like last time. The watchdog includes the Windows application event log, which is often the only way that I can determine the cause of a crash.

    Thanks,

Weird - the Hauppauge IR was installed and was running until I upgraded everything - but even IR.EXE (from Hauppauge did not run) - reinstalled drivers and now IR.EXE runs and detects blaster.

HOWEVER, Mediaportal Configuration under remote / Hauppauge states the "IR components have not been found, install the latest drivers". Windows Devices shows all the drivers installed and functioning OK. Needless to say, other than that Mediaportal is functioning perfectly! Strange.

Have uploaded the watchdog file as requested, generated just after the TV server crashed. I restarted TV server before the test and cannot see anything in the Windows application log.

    Regards
    Paul

    Hello Paul

If you used HCWClear to remove the driver then it would have removed IR32 (IR.EXE) etc. as well... but IR32 is not IRBlast. IR32 is the remote receiver driver; IRBlast is the blaster driver. To be clear: my comments refer to IRBlast, not IR32. IR32 is a MediaPortal [front end] concern. TV Server doesn't have any integration with IR32 (so IR32 is irrelevant to TV Server), but the TV Server ServerBlaster plugin which you have enabled does integrate with IRBlast.

HOWEVER, Mediaportal Configuration under remote / Hauppauge states the "IR components have not been found, install the latest drivers". Windows Devices shows all the drivers installed and functioning OK. Needless to say, other than that Mediaportal is functioning perfectly! Strange.
As above. If you're wanting to resolve the TV service crash then I can tell you that the cause still seems to be:
    1. That you've enabled the TV Server ServerBlaster plugin, which requires the Hauppauge IRBlast software to be installed, and...
    2. That Hauppauge IRBlast is not installed.
The solution should be simple: either install IRBlast, or disable the ServerBlaster plugin.

    Regards,
    mm

Sorry about my confusion. I had installed the latest version WinTV from the download and it "looked" as if it had properly install IRBlast. I have now fully installed IRBlast, it is working and will control Mediaportal - thanks for this.

On the other issue, I still get a failure. This time it is related to the Graph (message GraphBuildingFailed). I would appreciate your help again. Log files downloaded.

    Kind regards
    Paul

I'd be happy to help... but I'm not seeing the log files attached to your post.
